Danny Guthrie

Early reports suggest Guthrie is the first target wanted by Hughton.

A good box to box type of midfielder who shone in Newcastles promotion charge.

Checking on the nufc blogs, they would every sad to see him go but would be happy they get Gardner and we receive around £4M + Guthrie.

They also indicate he is amongst the lower earners on around £12K. Within our budget.

These are just the fans thoughts but it shows how highly they regard both players.

I think a £1M or £1.5M to buy him outright. But his tag is around £3M. Keep Gardner.

Thoughts.....

To be fair to Grdner he's always been a Sunderland fan so it wouldn't be fair to stand in his way if he wants to go...Prickkkk

I just read the article on SSN about Hughton raiding Newcastle and I think Wayne Routlage is a must. He was quailty in this division last season and won't cost much at all. Only worry would he QPR want him.
We are also being linked with Best again. Getting rid of Jerome and bringing in best would be an awful move.

To be fair to Gardner he has always been a Sunderland fan! Absolute classic. At least we Brummies haven't lost our sense of humour!

Very disappointed if Gardner goes, obviously he's not a Blues fan. He could stay till Xmas to see where we are in the table and gone in January if position not good.

If players want to go now then get them out the door asap providing the money is right we don't want anyone whose not in it 100% .

We do not know that all our players are for sale, JK you say that as though our board are going sell sell sell then leave us to sink

Yes every player would be sold if they was offered a good price, but is that not the case with 99% of relegated sides. We face a £40M loss we need to ballance the books the board can not really keep them unless Yeung will bankrole any losses and has a lot of cash which we really just dont know.

Your right the board may not want to disclose how much they sell players for, as if we say valued a player at £8M but sold for £5M then clubs would know we would be desperate to raise cash and then try and knock our prices down.

I think Gardner was a must keep, maybe as with Larsson behind the scenes this one has been happening for more than a week.

If Gardner is off then it does not bold well for other players because if he cant be commited to stay here for a season then who esle will

Gardner for me i think is worth £7-8M, £5M is a shock really i would have thought we would get £6M+ as a CM who cost us £3M and scored 10 goals last season in a negative football side is a bargin at £5M

Great Ambition if Stoke go for Dann but we must hold out for £10M+ as for Jerome i say swap him fort SEB instead

Guthrie is a decent player would do well in Championship but i am not sure he is as good a goal threat as Gardner.

I feel Gardner loss is a real blow

Maybe he is a Sunderland fan then who cant stay at Blues because we signed their rivals ex Manager

Well i guess we do not know the full picture.

Players look after themselves, would you be loyal to your job if it meant you was given worse jobs at your place, but then you had chance to do the job you prefer for higher wages.

Footballers prefer to play in the Prem, if they are given that chance and for higher wages than they would earn now you cant blame them.

Only thing is i expected Gardner to want to try and get us promoted, it seems that playing in the Prem for Sunderland is more vital to him than trying to get his boyhood club back into the Prem.

Gardner could have stuck around untill Xmass, then if we was not looking like we will get promoted then ok we cant blame him.

Makes you wonder had we stayed up, would Gardner had stayed with us or moved to Sunderland, if his answer was that he would prefer to stay with Blues in the Prem, then we are 12 months away from the Prem if all things go well.

Maybe behind the scenes players are concerned or know more about the financial situation at the club, maybe they know something we dont. If players seem to think we are a sinking ship in more chance of doing a Portsmouth than a Promotion then that would explain a mass exedus of players who want to leave.

And if financial situations are to blame, then indeed we may have no choice but face facts the board will sell everyone who can raise cash!

I wonder if Hughton got to talk to him as i am sure Gardner would have been a player to build our midfield around.

This still makes me wonder if wages are being slashed by Blues.

Banjo, I know you said in Zigic's case it's probably not, but what about all the other players?

Surely we are not so naive, we not to have a clause in most the contracts.

Surely If Mcjudas did then it stands to reason most the players did too.

Unless there is proof that they are on less than last season then that 'must' be the case.

As far as loyalty goes in football, it will last until the next pay cheque. Whoever is offering the most will get the services.

Dont forget so many transfers are pushed through or started by agents knowing it's another bumper bank-roll.

RE Gardner.
I'm sure I read somewhere he used to have a season ticket for Roker Park and stood on the terraces with his dad.

Chris Hughton promised us a new look squad and it looks like this is what we will get.

Remember that dossier on all the players, none of us know what is written in there. Perhaps he has decided a complete overhaul is needed.

Maybe he want to prune the squad even further than any of us imagined. He has hinted as much in his press conferences.

It's a waiting and guessing game until it all comes to light.
