Now, I know why Test cricket is Intriguing.

Subtly Intriguing at that.
Having been fan of Test cricket via road of ODI cricket since 2003 World cup,Its just recently that I am beginning to appreciate the game even more.
At the beginning I really used to think that ODI games with its colourful clothes and lively atmosphere were the real deal and test match cricket with white clothes(opponents wearing same dress) and sparse crowd may have been some practise match, just like the test/exams in schools.

And I couldnt sort out what the purpose of the game really was, batsman could bat on and on and the game could go on forever.

And to be honest for my first year of cricket watching(ODIs), i didnt really know the rule of Test match cricket, ie about setting up the target, follow on ,how a team win and how could a team, nearly on verge of winning, late on day 5 could be deprived of a win and the game could be called draw, etc

It has been about 5 years or so that i have understood the basics of the game( i think i am the expert now). but again during most of the time, there were too many draws and only few tensio-match like some I can remember are Eng-Aus Adelaide test 2007 when England crumbed to pressure(i couldnt quite fathom that at the time), England's last South Africa tour, australia's last India tour, Cardiff test, etc. In those games and some other, there has been Tension during most of the game times, You always feel that especially when you're setting up target in the 3rd innings and chasing/defending total on the 4th one or saving the match on 5th day.

But TBH,really dead track in most of the subcontinents were boring, apart from few I mentioned, but not all tracks in subcontinent are that flat nowadays I think, there are more results now and especially 3rd inning is more interesting(painfully recall that last aussie tour to India).
Bowler friendly pitches like of recent times ,I think makes for a really lively and fascinating cricket viewing, cause you always get the feeling that something is going to happen next.
So there shouldnt be a run rate over 4 and great boundaries hitting for a great contest.
So in general ,I think A test match is really good to watch when there is a contest between Bat and ball and when Batsman has to earn hard for every run .A boundary in this sort of games feel like a goal in a football match, but the games like "regular srilanka-India games that used to happen about a year ago and 400 runs used to be scored were honesty very nauseousness,a boundary seemed valueless"
so for great test match=bowler friendly wicket(atleast something in the wicket)
otherwise I feel the test match cricket is as boring as trying to watch a golf match in Television.

Nice article Chop

I first started watching cricket in the late 70`s so its test match cricket for me the really only matters.

ODI`s are just a bit of fun for the newer generation but i`m pleased to say that my 16 year old lad thinks the same way has you and I do . I`v been lucky enough to take him to a few games involving England.

Welcome to REAL cricket

I love my football but its nothing compared to what it used to be before SKY got their filthy hands on it so don`t come preaching to us about sh/t sports

Now go and put your footie top on with someones name on the back of it that justifies in your mind that you are a massive fan...

Glad youve seen sense and realise test cricket is king, everything else is just a sideshow albeit a good source of entertainment but still not a true test of a cricketer's ability.
