I have always been very impressed by the quality of debate by the contributors to the Burton JA 606 site. I am always visiting the site, interested in what everyone has to say, and strongly feel that bond that unites
us all - our passion for the Brewers.
Its a long time (Boxing Day I reckon) since we had a victory to cheer, and after the two consecutive home defeats (Hereford much worse than Stanley) when players were arguing with and criticising fans, and I wrote an article
about my fear of the "wheels dropping off" and all the early season hopes
evaporating away.
It is my belief that the management has "steadied the ship", and this was reflected in a wonderful first half display of passing football, which deserved to win us the game. Unfortunately, Oxford came back strongly (give them credit for that) and a draw was a fair result in a cracking game.
Some of that football in the first half was sublime , Oxford were played off the park, and for once we didnt look as if we were at risk of conceding a goal. Lee Lucas had a very promising debut, Callum Driver looks confident and assured, Billy Kee's still with us and is near to playing again. So rejoice
BrewersFans!!!!!!!! Be positive !!!!!!!!!
The first season in the League was good, although many teams underestimated "Little Burton" In Year 2 we had been "rumbled" ,our conference players seemed out of their depth, and although the fixture pile-up didnt help, neither did a misguided lack of attacking strategy.
When I first looked at the fixtures for this season , I felt it was a much stronger league than the previous two seasons, and I feared for their survival.
We may not win at Swindon, we probably may not make the "play-offs"but we have a better team with better players, playing better football, than the previous two seasons. We are making progress and consolidating gradually. Indeed there were some articles and comments earlier in the season about the wisdom of not trying to mve to quickly, a well as the better points of visiting League 2 grounds, rather than those of teams in higher divisions
Lets hope that playing good attacking football brings in the crowds (from my
observations we will be around 20th of 24 clubs for home attendances)
Play-offs?? Que sera, sera !! In any event, let's get behind our team, and cheer them on!!
C'mon you Brewers

Keep the faith!

I wrote at the turn of the year that we would probably not win again until late March. I have pretty much written this season off now and am just enjoying the mid-table football without worrying about relegation or needing points to break in to the play-offs.
I agree with everything that you have written Brewer Dave. I think we are much better this season and if we can keep the best of our players and add a few like them in the summer we will be in good shape for next season.
I have even thought about next season and what is likely to come up and what is likely to come down to join us - and the 6 teams that we will lose. Overall I think it will be a weaker league next season and it might be our chance then.

Couldnt agree more Dave, all our threaders have a very mature way when making comments on our site.Yes Dave we have made slight progress in 3 years but for me its to slight. The quality of our strikers is second to none and a lot of teams in our league would welcome them with open arms. For me Dave other positions still fall short of the quality we need to make the team a solid unit.Theres to many BSP players at the club and until we let them go to play at that level of football and bring in some proven players at this level we wont progress much more.It must be difficult for the chairman to balance the books and keep us solvent in these horrible financial times and the lack of interest from the Burton public doesnt help. Its hard for me to say this Dave but i think we will be an average league 2 side for some time to come.

I still keep wondering what it might be like with an extra 3 grand a week to spend on wages - a couple of very decent players who actually play.

Yes dave I totally agree with your views and what you have said and got to keep the faith .
But I would like to see more positive Posts ok we have not been playing very well just recent .But let's move on give the players the support before the games and after if they have not performed then we can criticise the
performance
So come on you brewers

Evening Brewers, I was disappointed our game foul to the weather and hope that none of you had started out on your way to Swindon before it Was postponed. I was still hopeful this morning as last year we used the same covers before the Sheffield Wednesday game and Im sure then we were the only game on in Div one when every other pitch was unplayable. A friend actually told me today the pitch was just about playable but the weather forecast was the main reason for the postponement. It started snowing here ( just west of Swindon ) around 2pm but although not heavy it has settled at around 2" I read you may have had Billy and Richards out today so maybe from your point of view the game being off wasn't all bad news? I myself prefer mid week games under the lights but that's easier to day when it's a home game.

Loko,
I will think you will find that 99% of posts on here that are critical have come after inept performances for most of the season.
Agree with dave about our first half performance against Oxford but i'm not sure we will ever have a steady ship with Captain Pesch in charge.
Remember, hes the one who signed Mr "Bench Warmer " Moore.
Top wage earner who dosn't play.
Why ? because hes not good enough.
Who gave Jimmy Phillips a contract this year?
Obviously for his performances in training because hes not done anything to warrant a contract.
Who has allowed us to ship in goals with the same centre halves playing that we had last season.
We cant afford to pay for Parkes because of Bench warmers wages.
He still persists in playing Bolder & Magrath together when its quite obvious and has been for sometime they cant play together.
Teams must rub there hands when they see there names together on the team sheet because it stifles any attacking options we have with them both in the side.
To me Pesch's days have to be numbered because he isn't and hasn't learnt from his mistakes he's making and those he made last year.
Believe me we stayed in league two last year despite him not because of him.
