That's the one word that kept springing to mind today while watching that - comfortable.
Never at any stage did we look like getting beat. In fact, you got the distinct impression that there were more goals in it for us if we had wanted them, but the boys seemed happy to sit on the 2-0. And why not. For all they were allowed to have the ball, never did we seem particularly stretched.
Hilariously the tv people seemed to think that Rangers were poor because of what had happened off the park. No. Rangers were beaten by the better team. The 14 players Rangers used over the 90 minutes were simply not good enough to beat Dundee United today. It's as simple as that. It wasn't the debt, it wasn't the empty seats. It was Dundee United that beat them.
It looks like GMS has formally introduced himself to the wider Scottish public with his display, and all he did today was perform as he has done since he came into the team. Immense. Russell was excellent today. I'm not going to fall into the cliche'd trap of banging on about "they all had great games" because for me some players still ahd gears to go through, which is promising for the rest of the season.
That was extremely satisfying and well done to everyone involved, including the Arabs who sold out their allocation. Good job they were there as Whyte needs every penny collected from those ticket sales.
On to the next round and hopefully a home tie.
As for Rangers....

One of the best quotes I've seen on here in the aftermatch of todays games is that "united had a better bench than (Rangers) did".
And it's true, we did.
We also had a better starting XI.

lex, the better support is to be expected
To be fair, United do have an excellent support. Maybe not so much in numbers but in terms of the backing we give the club, few can better it. And as Graham Spiers always bangs on about, we always seem to be upbeat about things regardless of how rubbish we are!
As for that cup final....heartbreaking doesn't describe it given what it would have meant for the club and the Chairman especially.

Aww the semi against Celtic? Sorry, i thought you meant the final against Rangers.
Aye...my overriding memory of that was that it was freezing! And there was very little to get me warmed up either!

That Gary Mackay-Steven is a tremendous player. You will be lucky to keep a hold of him.
