Thoughts about the game, players and 4th

Firstly I want to start by taking back every negative thing I've ever said about Skrtel.

I have always thought he has been the weak spot in our defence and a liability but ever since finding an ideal partner in Agger, and forming a wall of a partnership I'm proud to say he has proved me wrong. He has been phenomenal this season and some of the tackles he made last night were just incredible. (It should never have been a yellow) So that's that off my chest.

The game last night, IMO was a cracker, the best 0 - 0 I've seen in a long time. Don't get me wrong it was incredibly frustrating but it was two teams in great form going head to head and cancelling each other out which was epitomised by the incredible battles that were going on all over the pitch. Johnson v Walker went tooth and nail, Kuyt and Kelly played Bale out of the game, Gerrard and Parker was brilliant to watch with Gerrard putting in a peach of performance, Carroll and both centre backs were at each other all game and Carroll's performance was impressive and finally Skrtle's battle against anyone that came near the goal. He was a tackling machine last night.

Despite the awesome performance, it was still 2pts dropped at home which is becoming a real problem. 14 games left with 7 at home to play. If we disregard opposition (as we seem to do at home) and just take our home form into account then we should expect to pick up about 11pts from 21 at home which would leave us needing at least 20 points from the away games to stand a chance of grabbing 4th, which even then I highly doubt 70pts will be enough for 4th.

So, what I am essentially saying is. Have we thrown 4th away with too many draws at home? Was 4th ever realistic? Are we happy with missing out on champions league again?

Personally I feel missing out on champions league will be softened by a trip to Wembley or possibly two =) but even then it will require some more significant investment in the summer.

On a side note, 3 questions.
1)Should we cut our losses on Downing?
2)Is Charlie Adam good enough for Liverpool?
3)Is anyone else worried about Sunderland overtaking us?

Spearing is an able replacement for Lucas. Downing is a good squad member. Adam is good as long as Spearing or Lucas is in the team.

We should have beaten a weakened Spurs, although we missed some chances we are closer to getting a regular flow of goals than a few weeks back.

TBH, I was encouraged by Carroll's display.

It was good to see him, Gerrard, Suarez all on the same pitch.

Good things will come.

we will not get champions league football with carroll as our striker. Downing is not good enough... and charlie adam is arverage at best, he should not be starting every game. > bale and downing!!

Thought overall apart from teh finishing everone played well.
1. Downing was a costly mistake...sell sell sell
2.Adam is good enough he can make things happen on his day, look at the ball into carroll against wolves
3.Nope

I reckon Skrtel has becoming a better player under kenny and also he and agger complement each other. He, Bellamy, Enrique and Suarez have been stand out performers this season.

1 - no, once quality is added, can be a squad player (l know £20m for a squad player)

2 - again squad player, not really top 4 quality

3 - if we don't finish 4th well, we threw it away as every home draw we deserved to win so thats really dissappointing, a couple of more bad results then sumderland will be in the mix.

Not sure you deserved to win last night. Don't think either team did enough in the final third.

Friedel had to make 1 good save as did Reina.

How many of you can honestly say they alo felt the same? How many of you are now saying that Downing or Adam aren't good enough? See what i'm getting at?!

good post

a lot of Liverpool supporters have been saying the same for over 3 years.

part of the reason it didn't happen was Agger being injured for extended spells, part Carra still leading the side

People have been waiting for the Agger Skrtel combo for years now. and it is quite good
