HOW CAN ENGLAND HAVE NO GOOD TENNIS PLAYERS

i hadn't really thought about this before but scotland has andy murray and england have?????????

england is one of the big tennis loving countries but i honestly don't know of any english tennis players. i mean is there any in the top 100 or 200?? i don't have time to check so maybe you can tell me.

i just think it is almost unbelievable that england can't produce any decent tennis players. and i'm not just talking about 1 there should be at least 5 in the top 100.

This is a question that gets asked a lot. Basically not enough kids are taking up the sport and those that do are being let down by inept coaching. The people that are responsible for trying to bring a change to this, the LTA, are also incompetent, so it's one big vicious circle.

I think there's 1 English player in the top 200 by the way but not the top 100.

are you trying to say murray is a good player? last i heard he still hasnt won a slam and with the big 3 still in is very unlikely to win this one.

murray's is british right up to the point where he gets beaten , then he becomes scottish again

Its laughable isnt it.Everyone I speak to that isnt a Scot and does not want Murray to win because he is a Scot!! The media hype it up as much as they can, I have no more allegence to Murray than any other tennis player at wimbledon, as a character in the game I find him grey and glum, he is a depressive person at the peak of his life, if he cant enjoy this I cant enjoy willing him on to be honest.

How come we have the richest (thereabouts)Tennis Association in the world but the worst players?
Answer................Tennis is a middleclass game in this country.
The sooner it is TRULY opened up to a wider pool of talent (ie the working classes..... God forbid!) then the sooner we'll get results. But it won't happen. It'll never happen.

As I said in a prvious thread two similar populated countries France, have 4 players in the top 20, and 8 in the top 100, and Spain have 10 players in the top 50, and 14 in the top 100. For these and other countries it`s not treated as a toff sport. England/Britains attitude to tennis needs to change drastically.
Wimbledon itself could actually start this with getting rid of the stupid "predominently white" dress rule of the players. They all look the same. No individuality, all in the same toffs club etc.

Until recently i lived in Spain for 9yrs.

Our daughter went to school there. Her summer holiday was 3months long and we worried how we'd keep her occupied for this long break. We need'nt have worried as the sports courses on offer were fantastic. From swimming, tennis, paddle, football, fencing, basketball etc etc......the list was endless AND ALL FOR PEANUTS!
There were competitions where, wait for it.........YOU HAD WINNERS! None of this 'it's the taking part' or 'no-one loses' nonsense.
Having returned a yr or so ago to the UK i can't believe the difference. I'm not politically biased but the last administration have a hell of a lot to answer for, in my opinion.
As for the 'whites' at Wimbledon..............I personally think a bit of tradition is good..............

Yes, I hate that you can not be a winner here in the UK, just the taking part. I heard last week the schools are going to get rid of this and.....wait for it.... actually have winners at school.

I would say its not just about being good at tennis.
Its probably about things like "old money" and "new money".
I may be wrong but I have never heard of a story about a kid coming from the slum estates and breaking into tennis "Billy Elliot style" have you?
Maybe that tennis needs to move with the times and tap into things it never has before?

I totally agree bud but they won't. They'll bang on about this that and the other agaaaaaaaaain as they have done for years.
We have a potential champion somewhere in our midst but i'm guessing he/she lives in the wrong postcode, speaks in a tongue they can't comprehend and does'nt look like they do.
