Darren Moore Leave Burton Albion

News on Albion's website....

You can't knock him as a person and in his pomp he must have been a very good player to have played at the level he did. Unfortunately we didn't see much of that. We probably won't have saved much money, he would still have wanted a large proportion of what was left on his contract, but we'll have saved a little, hopefully enough to get Tom Parkes back??

Pesch may now have to buy a few blankets to keep the bench warm!

I know a lot of you have knocked him as a player, hell he was past his best when he played for us(!), but I think what he will have added as a personality, with all his experience and know-how, in and around the dressing room, will have been invaluable to what was an inexperienced management team and an inexperienced squad, in football league terms.

Good luck Big Dave

Agree entirely with you Cmon-u-Brewers.

Last home game, thanks to a christmas present, I found myself off the terracing and into the restaurant, and watched the game in relative luxury. A good time was had , and I was struck by the warmth and friendliness of the staff which I believe to be in line with the values of our club.

Mingling with some players and officials after the game , I was able to comment to Pesch about what I saw as a wonderful 1st half performance ,to which he reassuringly grumpily replied that it was a shame we could do it for 90 minutes.

It's not that which is going to be my overwhelming memory of the day, it was a discussion of about 5 minutes my partner and I had with Darren Moore. Easy to talk to, very articulate and interesting, this obviously nice guy seemed to radiate goodness . I can imagine now how much of an ambassador for the club he was, and will be missed in this respect.

His signing was a mistake, and I will remember last season when he constantly "leant" on opposing forwards to stop them playing. I have been more critical of him than any other player, but having met him I very much remember him as a very nice guy and club captain.

I believe this is another example of CaptainPesch and
Admiral Ben steadying the ship. We must always be free to voice our criticisms but lets not become cynical and negative but tolerant and encouragingly positive. We must get behind the team and keep faith with those who steer "the good ship Burton"

Agree that I too hope this means that we can get Tom Parkes back!!

I also think we are not appreciative and respectful to past players, for example the reception given to Guy Branston , Russ Penn and Shaun Harrad. We should
thank them, wish them well, and applaud them when they ever return.

So let it be with Darren Moore. Thanks and good luck, Darren !

C'mon you Brewers

I think Darren Moore is a man of substance and fibre, he could have been selfish and seen out his contract and kept collecting his money, he has realised the clubs plight in discussions with Ben and Pesch and an amicable agreement has been reached. He has done the right thing as i'm sure he realises his playing days have come to an end. I can't think of any players who would do this in todays game. Full credit to him,Ben and Pesch.
Maybe that does give Pesch a little lee-way know, and a possible return for Parkes, is that 4th or 5th time,we might as well just sign him(incidently the current loan system will end in 2 seasons time).
So good luck and best wishes to big Dave,(i was expecting him to stay with us in a coaching capacity next season to be honest). I have no doubt he will receive a good reception from the supporters in the future as he will be remembered as a man who acted with honour in this matter.

Good news at a time when we needed some.
Yes he seems a really nice bloke but we all have to admit including Pesch it wasn't a very good peice of buisness.
He never bought the stability to the defence which Pesch hoped he would.
But lets be fair even before we signed him Pesch must have known about his lack of pace which was always going to be found out in our division.
If it was his decision then credit to him.
Now we can only hope Pesch uses the funds if there actually are any wisely.
Rumours going round are that if he wants Tom Parkes he had better hurry because Chesterfield have been showing interest in him.

As a figure head he was a great signing as a player a poor one, when first announced he was joining and had rejected an offer from a Championship club this looked a great bit a business but we soon realised that despite Darren’s superb commitment his complete lack of pace would be his overall downfall.

I listened to the interview with him this morning, he seemed very down on the fact he has left the club under these circumstances but as recompense I envisage he will be paid up till end of March so should he find a club up to that timeframe he will be gaining a dual benefit.

I too wish Darren well; he has made 599 league appearances and enjoyed some great highs he may have a few games left in him so hope he makes his 600th match with another club.

For replacements do we seek an experienced player on the way down or a youngster with potential? Whoever this is he must be minimum 6ft 2” and have plenty of pace. I know Ken Dodd made a living with “the diddymen” but I don’t think Pesch can survive with a team full of them.

Everyone says he is a nice bloke.

I am sure that everyone knows a 'nice bloke' - a neighbour, someone at work or someone in the corner shop. You probably wouldn't want them playing at centre half for the Brewers though.

His signing was a gamble that backfired spectacularly.

He has undoubtedly been good for the club off the pitch.

The fact that he has behaved honourably by leaving and the fact that he is a 'nice bloke' makes it difficult to be critical.

I think we can all agree that throughout his time at the club he seemed like an old boxer who kept returning for one more fight.

He has had a fantastic career. I saw him playing for Bradford in the late 90s and he was absolutely brilliant. It was a shame to see him playing on for a year or two too many - his head telling him to carry on but with age clearly having got the better of him.
