According to Sky Bet, McCarthy is the favourite to become the new Leeds United manager at 2/1.

Warnock is second favourite at 3/1.

Last week my first choce was Warnock, but not that Mick is available, he would be my number 1 choice. The players would also listen to a lad like him.
======================================

Have you got in on good authority that the players would listen to him, or are you making that up? If the players did not listen to their old manager, then surely the players are to blame not Mr Grayson..........

MyHouse - steady progress involves improving the team which means buying better players which cost more money than we are currently spending. Where do you think this is going to come from. Remember its club first team second. I'd rather have Warnock, at least we wouldn't be bored to death again.

Antrim- i think Bates would have to make funds available to attract either Warnock or Mcarthy they both know the current squad is not good enough.
Warnock will give us a short term fix but has the same talent as Bates in rubbing people up the wrong way.
Mcarthy imo will bring long term stability and maybe take longer to bring success but will do it in an honest and open manner, something that has been sadly missing in recent times at Leeds.

A common misconception in my book - it's not ALL about spending money. The most important thing is to have a manager (and system) that gets the absolute maximum from the resources at hand - Wilko being the perfect example. Only then are you likely to be more generous giving out the money.

It is fairly clear to me that Bates eventually lost all confidence in Graysons ability to assess a player or motivate the team.

I simply don't believe that the players we have are not capable of better - not suggesting they are world-beaters but better than this, and we have seen it in patches.

Now Wakner may get a bit more from the team, but I fear the damage done in achieving this may not be worth it.

Anyway, off to Coventry tomorrow, just in case Wakner gets the job and I no longer need to go to any games.

Myhouse-the current squad have a frightening lack of quality, no amount of motivation is going to change that.
The stand out performance on saturday for Leeds was Delph who isnt going to be around much longer, apart from Snoddy the rest of the team are at best average championship players, some not even average.
I agree that Warnock is odious but then so is SAF , you can`t argue with the success either have achieved.
Having said that would much prefer Mcarthy if its a choice between the two.

If McCarthy came, we'd get some quality interviews

Sorry NHT, didn't get the chance to reply yesterday.

I'm interested about 'frightening lack of quality' ? At various times this season, the general consensus (on here and elsewhere) has been that Lonergan, Lees, White, Clayton, Delph, Snodgrass and McCormack have been good. And Smith the loanee is supposed to be very promising as well.

So why not consistently ?

Could it have been the tactics and organisation ? So I'm not necessarily talking about motivation, just something more planned and structured than 'I'll throw all these players together and hope it all works out'.

Like I say, I'm not arguing with your assessment, just wondering if there's much more to it than spending money and a short-term disaster area like Wakner.

I'd love it if Redfearn was able to get this sorted, but if we were to go the route of the 'bigger name' then it would be McCarthy for me all the way (although Wolves defence on Sunday did seem remarkably familiar...!!).

my house.
wouldnt argue that Snodgrass and McCorrmack have quality, Lees and White still have a lot to learn and Clayton still hasn`t found any consistancy in my opionion. Lonergran is ok but nothing more, Delph won`t be with us much longer.

Im not advocating spending massive amounts only the money we have received in transfer fees.
We had Quality in Gradel and Howson but only spent money on Pugh, hardly a quality replacement
We have wasted far too much money on loan players instead of permanent players.

I can`t argue that under Grayson the organisation, especially in defense , was not great but can`t help but feel that given a reasonable transfer fund in January 2011 to buy one or two quality players we could have made a real promotion push.
Had we done so i feel Gradel and especially Howson would still be Leeds players i just feel now the squad has gone backwards as regards to quality.

Just look at the top two at the moment both Southampton and West Ham spent money in January to freshen up their squads and add more quality, wouldnt bet against either team getting promoted now.

As for the new manager i`m with you, would have liked Redfearn to have made an impact but that looks unlikely
now, would love McCarthy but fear we may well be disapointed with whoever Bates brings in.

McCarthy says no to Leeds

posted on 16/2/12

cheers kellys - but there is no direct quote from McCarthy,
the article says " he looks to have ruled himself out" and "Sportsmail understands that he want to take a step back"
everything in the article seems to be reasonable assumptions but thats all they are until there is a direct quote from McCarthy.
still hoping he may give it a go but being a Leeds fan i expect to be disappointed.
