How Did This Happen?

It seems wacky to me that a club with the size and tradition of Glasgow Rangers could have got itself into the position it has.

I mean when I think of big time football across the water in Britain I generally think Manchester United, Celtic, Liverpool and Glasgow Rangers.

Of course, there are others, and indeed some of who've got themselves into bother such as Leeds United, but I never thought any of the four institutions mentioned above could.

Would it be fair to assume this problem largely rests with David Murray and his years at the club, particularly his desire at one point for Rangers to win the European Cup - the glowing omission from the Ibrox trophy room/history etc?

Additionally, do McCoist and Whyte look more like innocent bystanding victims in all this whilst the big culprits David Murray and Walter Smith and reckless ambition and pursuit are the main issues.

Maybe I'm being harsh - I am not really an expert on money having never had much of it myself to be honest*! Who is to blame?

* Though NEVER in debt - paid everything in cash and didn't buy what I couldn't afford.

Walter was the football manger

They ask for money if the club have it they get it.

Or thats how it should work

SDM takes 100% of the blame for this.

Hartley,

Read the following, some may say prophetic, interview from 'bitter director' (copyright der ostrich) Hugh Adam for an insight into just how 'big' Rangers are.

David Murray runs the club into the ground and uses potentially disastrous EBT schemes. When the bank is forced to step in they limit funding and reduce the debt to £18m. Murray knows that there’s still a potential club ending tax case and wants out before that happens.

Instead of accepting the tax responsibility, which would send MIH into a very precarious position, he sells his shares to Craig Whyte. A known asset stripper. Murray could have sold his shares for £18m and £1, cleared the club debt, thus leaving Rangers in a firm position (Tax case aside)….Which he promised the fans.

Whyte proceeds to sell the catering wing back to MIH and releases £24m on the back of the next four season ticket sales. He also sells players to only replace them with cheaper options both in transfer fee and contract status. He also withholds payment from many companies and the tax man.

Meanwhile AJ and his cohorts do a bit of bashing because they think Whyte is putting cash aside raised by Rangers to buy the club back…..Plus as the main creditor he’s entitled to his slice of the Rangers pie.

They now suspect that Whyte bought the club for a £1, has paid the club debt using club funds instead of clearing it, has sold future season tickets, players and parts of the business. Money is being ring fenced by ex board members. Not because the club can’t potentially afford the settlement, it’s because they think Whyte is putting the money out of reach.

Now Whyte takes the club into administration so he can get his slice of the pie before the tax man completely destroys the club.

Rangers fans, players and coaches are all the victims in this.

Both Murray and Whyte have sold them down the river.

I'm assuming (after Fred Goodwin has his nighthood taken away) that Sir David Murray will be losing his as well?
