After watching last nights shambles, I have to say that we dropped a major major clanger not replacing Ben Marshall when it became clear he wasnt going to extend his loan with us. If Meggy is going to play with 2 big lads up top, then he needs to find somebody (& quickly) on emergency loan who can get behind teams to to the bye-line & put a decent cross for Madine & O Grady to attack. Too many times our strikers are receiving the ball in the middle of the opponents half with their back to the goal. They are being fed off scraps at present, lumping the ball up to them just doesnt work. If we are going to persist with this tactic, then Lowe needs to play off either Madine or O Grady to run onto the knock ons. Last night it was crying out for players to make overlapping runs down the wing to knock crosses into the box. JJ unfortunately keeps hold of the ball too long & doesnt deliver quality crosses and has a tendency to cut inside, in my opinion he is is best used as an impact sub.
Whilst nothing is decided in Feb & I'm sure there will be lots more twists and turns, this is the 2nd season where a bad Jan transfer window has had a negative impact on us.
Now in true Owlstalk fashion........Thoughts?
Desperately seeking a win(ger)

Is that entirely true though? The stats show Stevenage had 7 shots, 3 on target and 1 goal; whereas we had 10 shots, 7 on target and didn't score.
That would imply we are getting the shots, but lack clinical finishing?

I agree we need someone who can cross. There is nothing more irritating than JJ trying to cross. Its a big problem, with apparently no solution, play-offs looks like the best we can hope for at the moment.

Sars, the stats that matter are that Stevenage came away with 3 points, we got 0.

I have to Agree with Briggowl JJ can't cross for sh ite & when he get the ball all he wants to do is a solo run which makes it easy for defender crowd him off the ball BUT the gods have answered our calls & Udders have sack Clark????? bemused yes, happy yes

Cheese
Yeah, I agree, but the cause of this wouldn't appear to be lack of shots, but rather their accuracy - this would imply the problem wasn't in the provision to the forwards but in their profligacy when presented with chances

Completely agree that we have shot ourselves in the foot by not going all out to secure Marshall until at least the summer, or source a suitable replacement.
The Play Offs are a lottery and I would prefer not to endure the suffering of these matches.
Having said that, without the assurances of a decent winger we may, just may, slip down beyond sixth if the inept performances against the likes of Exeter and Stevenage continue.
I hope its a blip and that His Garyness kicks their backsides well and truly. He must be spitting feathers, I know I am.
Meggo / Milan sort it out ASAP.
