What is going wrong?

This article isnt intended to be a rant, it is simply one that looks at the current position we are in and tries to explore the possible source(s) to problems with our recent form.

I dont go to every game so hopefully some of you who do will be able to comment further on anything that I bring up here.

So what is going wrong right now? Where has the form, the strength, the goals gone? Is it one thing in particular or is at a number of issues?

The manager - Has Megson lost it? Has he lost the team? Is he caving under the pressure? Im 100% behind Megson, I think hes done a great job and built a much better team than we had last season. The fact that we are even challenging has to say something but some of his comments puzzle me and dont give me the confidence that I as a fan need. After the Stevenage game he almost seemed to blame ryan lowes injury and Bostocks illness for the reason we lost. Thats madness and clutching at straws for me. Ryan Lowe has been somewhat annoymous since his arrival and Bostock hasnt exactly set the place alight in the games he has taken part in.

Rob Jones - Sometimes I think hes a rock and sometimes I think hes a liability. We were winning 1-0 against Exeter until Lera gets injured (replaced with Jones) and then it all goes to sh.. for us. I dont think he can be blamed for 2 freekick goals but something obviously went wrong when we lost Lera. Is Jones not up to it?

Ben Marshall - Has losing him truly pist on our bonfire? Since his departure our strikers are like headless chickens. People say we have JJ and on his day hes as good as Marshall but in my opinion JJ is nowhere near the overall quality that Marshall was. I commend JJ on his current form, he's definately been our most dangerous player but he doesnt seem to be able to get the best out of the other people around him like Marshall did.

Gary Madine - Mr Goal Machine seems to have major oil issues! Is he still struggling with injury or is he not getting the service that Marshall supplied anymore?

Stephen Bywater - Im going to just jump in and say I think Weaver is better. On a few occasions I have seen him conceed goals that I thought Weaver would have saved. On countless occasions I recall been in the stands and at least once a game chanting "Weaver! Weaver! Weaver!" after hes made an incredible game saving stop. I have never known a time where I have wanted to do that for Bywater. Dont get me wrong, I do like Bywater, hes a good keeper but hes not as good as Weaver.

Milan - Saved our lives, club back from the depths of near administration! Wednesday saviour he is and always will be and I love him for it but has he given enough to Gary Megson? Is he holding back too much by not giving Megson the funds he needs to get this side from been an almost to a definate? Maybe his business mind makes him over cautious and hes not willing to make that neccessary gamble to ensure that they key players we need are playing in a blue and white shirt.

Central Midfield - Semedo is a legend. He's class and everyone loves him but is the other central midfield postion still a weakness? Pruttons too similar to Semedo, is Lines good enough? is Liam Palmer not at this level? Where is our true playmaker? Is it Bostock? Im not sure, I havent seen enough of him yet but if he is then maybe thats what we need to get our strikers back into business.

Is it one of these things or is it a combination of all of them? Id go with a combination of all personally and maybe other people will have other things as well.

The only thing that is certain is that we need to get what we had back pretty sharpish because otherwise we will get left behind.

p.s - I have always wanted to write an article on the Airbus UK page

I think its the fact that Madine has lost his form and now Marshall has gone we dont have that service that he craved before hand. Even though we have JJ in Marshalls place he is a different kind of player, he isnt creative and has more of an eye for goal and relies on pace whereas Marshall was more creative and had a hell of a delivery, but we seem to be forgetting M Jones who has come in and seems to be simular to Marshall so why dont we go with Jones, Semedo, Bostock/Lines & JJ. With JJ on good consistant form ( Never though id ever say that ) he can the goals whilst Jones delivers to Madine to score more goals then the creativity can come form Bostock or Lines through the middle. Also on the defensive side id rather go with Llera than R jones, far more reliable, hope his head injury heals before Sat

We should merge with Airbus UK, giving us access to all emerging Flintshire talent. We could also loan out our reserve players to see how they fare in the boiling cauldron that is the Welsh Premier League.

A very sensible proposal from Eckaslike. Merger could be a route into Europe, once we have beaten Wrexham and Merthyr Tydfil in the summer qualifiers.

(Boiling cauldron is a tad too far, I suspect a bit of poetic licence)

I always liked that club name Ton Pentre, never knew where in Wales it was or what it meant but it does sound a bit hedonistic

I don't actually think we're much worse than we've been for a while. Defensively, most of the goals we've been conceding in the league have been 'worldies' (Charlton, Exeter, Hartlepool) and attacking-wise we're actually having more attempts per game than we were early in the season. We're just not putting enough of them away. This is partly because Madine is having a toys-out-of-pram period having lost his best mate Marshall (who, Megson pointed out, only created 2 of madines 12 goals) and partly because we no longer seem to be a threat from corners and throw-ins. 10 corners on Tuesday and we only once looked like scoring (Jones put it over). This could be because the quality of delivery isn't as good (missing Marshall) and partly because we don't have that power when Reda is missing. Ok we've lost Marshall but we've gained a fired-up JJ and Mike Jones who may yet prove to be a good un. My biggest worry is how we play out the last 10 minutes of games - either humping it from the centre circle to the D of the 12 yard box (easy-peasy for defenders) or, if we're winning, running it to the corner flag for 10 minutes, letting the opposition seize the initiative. Come on megson that bit just isn't good enough. The rest is pretty much in place as it was before
