Lets rewind back to his early days when he inherited world class players and only needed a few tweak to an already established senior internationals. At the same time the competition was minimum to be honest with only United challenging us for titles.
This period coincided with the great French renaissance where every top players were playing in France and French players were the hottest commodities at the time from Zidane to djorkaeff, lizarazu, Petit, Pires, Vieira, Desailly, Didier Deschamps, Blanc, Thuram, HenryTrezeguet, Christian Karembeu etc.
So basically AW was very lucky to have all his picks to chose from without any competition whatsoever especially here in England. With Dennis Bergkamp already on board, AW couldn't have chosen the right time to make an impact at Arsenal.
SAF was recently quoted saying that AW was lucky with french based players at the time and soon as that source got compromised, he lost the war. The players he used to cherry pick for fun, are now chasing big ££ salaries at Chel$ea, Ci£y, Madri$,Bar$a or Unit£d.
Basically, Arsene Wenger run out of ideas, out muscled in transfer market and out witted by agents and was chased down the alleway by rich men carrying dollar signs. He had to improvise by taking gambles on the likes of Walcott, Gibbs, Denilson, Vela, Bendtner, Eboue, Campbell, Coquelin etc. For every Fabregas with these noble but flawed youth project, you end up with Eboues and Ramseys, so unless the club or Wenger changes policy, we must as well as accept we cannot improve on the current level.
Has Wenger been found out finally?

I agree, but if we had more financial clout then I'm sure the players Wenger was bring in would be different. There's a lot more competition now but in general players will go where the money is and we're losing out to richer clubs.

Arsene Wenger - Protecting mediocre players from being killed since 2005
======================================
I don't think cutting our wage budget will increase the wages of others.....the wage is capped no matter who you are....I think there is a clause for certain players...i.e Fabregas and RVP but that's about £90K I think...
Look at Arteta we really wanted him and we would not budge on the wage cap....thank god he took a pay cut to play for us....
also look at Mata he all but signed then WHAM Chelsea offered a higher wage.........we should have competed but alas the board refuse....
Rumours flying around that Wenger argued the wage structure was wrong and to keep players like Nasri, Fabregas etc we needed to increase it to £100-150K a week...the board rejected the offer......Word has it that Wenger may have made his mind up about just finishing his contract and bugging off......
I know some people would love that....but who would we get in who can entice someone to us for £60K a week wages...Mourinho ? if it was £160K a week definitely but £60K? Mourinho would walk and say I am the Special one but not a bluddy miracle maker....

But you could easily increase the wage cap to say 110k if we managed our financial resources better by reducing the wages offered to **** squad players
At the end of the day we're a big club that many players would dream of playing for. However we are not a charity.

From Russia, very good analysis, we are in crisis and if the stingy board wants some of our money, we have to read the script and chase them out of town, I for once can't say how sick I get whenever that conniving Gazidis opens up, somebody please shackle him or something

Arsene Wenger - Protecting mediocre players from being killed since 2005 (U6857)

We have money anyway.....thats not a secret...we can splash out £30 M on a player if we wanted to......and if we have all this money do you think we could already increase the wages ?
I admit we have players on £50K a week who should be on £50 a week instead and possibly at the time they showed promise.....
Bendtner is our leading youth goalscorer of all time so he must have been good at one stage....
In truth last year most fans on here was praising Djourou.....

Its not really true what youve said.
Wenger is doing far better than any other manager could while returning a profit of £20m+ per year. The problem is where is all of the money going. If its on the stadium and the debt is nearly cleared that is one thing. If its gone to the board or Kronke thats another.
Until we know whats going on behind the scenes we cant really commetn on the situation. We can guess and make wild accusations like the OP, but not speak from a point of knowledge. You'll understand once youre a bit older.

IMO Wenger is as much to blame with the wage cap as the board.
Its stated that the wage cap was introduced to improve squad harmony which is why so many first teamers are on 40k+. If everyone is on near enough the same wage there'll be less arguments over pay rises, this is why many 'trouble makers' Diarra, Adebayor, Nasri etc are moved on, Wenger + Board are trying to build a utopia where there are no bad apples and every one earns more or less the same wage.
When was the last time Wenger signed a player with an ego? I think it's a transfer policy to stay away from players who might attract controversy or rock the boat and this limits us in the transfer market just as much as bloody wage cap, as most decent players nowadays will come with an ego and Wenger just doesn't know how to manage them.

Profit is based on two things: flogging our better players and scraping into the CL every year.
Logic dictates that at some point we won't be able to continue doing both.

Let's keep blaming the Board for all our shortcomings and completely ignore Wenger's tactical ineptness, his stubborness in trying to protect his mediocre players and his inability to motivate the team for even the biggest games of the season. They are both equally responsible for putting us in this mess and something needs to change in the summer- Either the Board goes or Wenger!
