Changes to the Game

Just spotted another article on here about improving the game and thought i'd start my own.

What with people talking alot about goal line technology etc. What changes do you think would improve our beloved game.

From my perspective, maybe we could take a few tips from the oval ball. i.e. Yellow card = 10 minutes in the sin bin. (Watch the dives and bad fouls rapidly decrease) and score more than four goals in a match and you get a bonus point, most contentious respect for the refreree (calling him Sir, no backchat etc)

Discuss !!!

If we understand the ref's thinking for each contoversial decision, I think we'd be a lot more understanding of it all

This is very logical and a good idea. I think, in a less logical thoughtwave, that the refs should emit a magnetic field, to which only the captain's shirts are attracted and the other player's shirts are repelled. That could be amusing as well as useful.

They tried this before with the Referees in football if i remember correctly but had to get rid because of bad language which is invariably always going to happen during a game of sport

Rugby players seem to manage to behave themselves.

I know most footballers are idiots, but they need to learn somehow.

that the refs should emit a magnetic field, to which only the captain's shirts are attracted and the other player's shirts are repelled.

That has possibilities only snag i see is that captains would become instantly glued to the ref - needs some tweaking there.

Simple rule - only captain is allowed to approach the ref - anyone else - YELLOW CARD (Rooney take note).

Hate this sinbin idea, anything borrowed from a game where people kick the "ball" OFF the pitch to gain an advantage is going to be total nonsense.

How about
1 Taking the ball into the corner flag to waste time - instant free kick for ungentlemanly behaviour. HATE it when the opposition does that .
2 Actually applying the OBSTRUCTION rule when the ball is running out of play - to actually shield the ball from an opponent you must be in possession of it ergo yo wont let it run out. Seeing someone obstructing for sometimes up to 20 yards is just riddiculous

i'd like to see every incident in which the whistle is blown reviewed after the game by a panel of referee's and ex-players, using all available video evidence.
we know ref's make mistakes, only having a single, usually obstructed viewpoint, and ony a split second to make a decision. this would allow yellow/red cards to be applied/removed retrospectively if a serious misjudgement has been made.
it would also allow for punishments to be properly applied to anyone deliberately diving or exaggerating injury, also possibly with points deducted from teams that are found to have players repeatedly cheating in this manner.
i'd really like to see all this diving and play-acting taken out of the game.

---------------

This doesn't make any sense. If the ball Is within playing distance then the person with possession has every right to shield it. Ushering the ball out of play whether it be for a goal kick, throw in or corner kick is not obstruction. What you seem to suggest is that a player shouldn't be allowed to let a ball run out of play. This is a little daft.

I think you will find that according to THE LAWS OF THE GAME - not making any attempt to play the ball but deliberately standing in the way of your opponent to prevent him playing the ball is deemed OBSTRUCTION and generally away from the touchlines it is still penalised as such. OK to you it is daft but THAT'S THE RULES mate

I may be getting back to you 10hrs later, but seeing as you don't understand the rules of the game I feel I may still reply.

The obstruction rule as you state it is only in effect if the ball is not in possession of the player (within a yard or so) . If the ball is within playing distance it's not considered obstruction. So shielding the ball out of play is totally acceptable and that's why it happens every game and no one complains.

So, if you are in possession of the ball and, as you state it, deliberately stand in the way of him to prevent him play the ball, that's not obstruction.

If you're not in possession and you block someone from attempting to play the ball, then it is indeed obstruction.
Glad I could be of service in educating you on one of the most basic rules of the game.

You're welcome.
