Does any one else think that the FA Cup is now totally devalued and does not have the prestige it once had?
I cant get excited about it anymore maybe due to last seasons debacle in the semi...
Fact is that Premiership survival is the be all and anything that can distract from it could have serious implications....
For me the competition has not been the same since they let Stretford Utd bunk off it and take part in some Mickey Mouse Far East competition a few years ago...If the FA don't think its serious enough then why should anyone else?.
No doubt the prem clubs involved will use the round to try out a few fringe players..and they wonder why crowds are poor. When I was a kid EVERY round was a big deal with big crowds...no more.
The Cup doesnt flow over anymore...

for me...this and the league cup is the ONLY chance Bolton will ever have of silverwear (or the jhonstones paint trophy if the worst comes to the worst)
I got the chance to see Wembley for the first time (the new one)
i wasn't happy with the result but these things happen, its water under the bridge now.
the reason the FA has lost its value is due to the financial rewards for winning it are very small compared to the champions league... plus all the media are interested in FA cup wise is when one of the 'big 5' are playing in it... so poeple lose interest as it dont have the media hype that the champions league has.
if I had my way, the top 4 clubs would be banned from it anyway... maybe it would get its 'spark' back then...

Hippo, United have contributed to the FA cup being slightly devalued.
IMO, its only in the earlier rounds, Birmingham last season was one of my favourite games, proper cup tie and a great advertisement for the competition.

And now United have de-valued the Channel 5 Cup by joining it in the knock out rounds 'cos they couldn't keep up with the CL teams.

United fans don't tend to get the tradition of an English competition being tucked away in thailand or somewhere

Think they do in Surrey and Ireland though..or do they?

The FA Cup has plenty of value ...if you're a mid-table PL Team with little else to worry about. If you're up at the top, you're gonna want to concentrate on getting a CL place, which is 10-20 times more lucrative. If you're near the bottom, it's a major distraction from savin' your skin and retaining Prem status.
So ..It's devalued for some, and prestigious for others .... It's all about the money though.
