Of course it's a given that all Celtic fans and the anti-Rangers groups are totally convinced that HMRC will walk away with a bigger victory than any Rangers ever handed the Parkhead club on the field of play. But listening to those with a more objective, impartial and educated view.......what if the taxman has got it wrong?
HMRC's score in tax cases over the past few years is far from perfect. The most recent and highest profile one of course, being their case against Harry Redknapp of Spurs. The government agency prepared for five years to put Harry away but failed miserably in the end, with an inquiry now being being demanded by the government and the opposition as to where it all went wrong.
According to those with a background in tax fraud cases, tax and investment councilors and lawyers, there is almost a 50/50 split as to whether or not Rangers FC even have a case to answer to. Of course we'll all know soon enough....but. like I say...what if HMRC have got it wrong and Rangers don't owe anything? Has anyone actually thought or considered that scenario? It's a possibility that even the usually sharp-as-a-tack news media seem to have overlooked in their daily scramble for ratings and sales.
But again....other than the usual moronic element out there.....has anyone got any idea of what might happen if HMRC's case fails (for whatever reason) as it did in London just 10 days ago?
However, in saying all that, even if the case is found in the 'Gers favour, there's no doubt Craig Whyte has an awful lot to answer for and I would like to think he will be replaced at Ibrox, one way or another, sooner rather than later...much sooner if possible. Never again do I want to see Glasgow Rangers FC and it's affairs end up in single entity ownership. It has proved nothing short of a disaster.
