Was Torres ever world-class?

At Liverpool he was supposedly the worlds most feared forward, and Uniteds nemesis.

Was this really true? Or did Liverpool fans merely hype him up beyond his real ability?

If he was really world-class, how can he look so much like Heskey in another side? And why were Liverpool fans delighted when he got sold?

Many people blame tactics by default, but this is wrong. Other players have gone to clubs that didn't suit them, like Berbatov at United or Ibrahimovic at Barcelona. But they did not suddenly turn into donkeys, they could still show their true class in flashes. With Torres, the player who Liverpool marketed as 'world-class' is completely gone, switching clubs does not explain this.

Was he over-rated at Liverpool? Or was he a first-class player who has inexplicably lost his talent?

Rafa made Torres world class

Roy ruined him

Roy ruined the whole team.

He was ruined before Chelsea were stupid enough to buy him. Liverpool sucked the confidence out of him with their decline as a club.

----------

He still scored 9 goals in that half a season. He wasn't as good as was, but he was nowhere near as bad as he is at Chelsea. Ruined his career by going to fulham road.

Torres scored 3 goals in 4 matches once Kenny took over. In hindsight he should have stuck with us.

Chelsea would be better off, we'd be better off, and Torres would be better off.

Torres' groin injury has slowed him down. He has lost his spark. He was finished after the world cup.

Someone said before but I'll say it again.

Rafa made Torres worldclass. Not that he didn't have the talent but it seems only Rafa knows how to play to his strenghts.

Torres still show some flashes of his former self at CFC, though they only last about maximum 2 seconds.

There are many factors that helped him at LFC:

Gerrard playing off him
Alonso dictating behind them (more influential than Gerrard for me)
Pressing high up the pitch ensured he received the ball early not allowing the opposing team to get into their defensive shape
Kuyt running around near him helping with closing down of defenders.

Its a shame its all gone wrong for him because the game needs a player of his talent at their best. Hopefully its sooner rather than later

When Torres was at his best, he was pure class. Still one of my favourite players to have ever pulled on the red shirt (being caught up by Suarez though I might add).

He should never have left when he did, he should have given us the rest of that season but now we have Carroll who is getting better and better and right now, I'd easily prefer Andy in my team.

Carroll is chopped liver compared to Torres at his best.....and that coming from a United supporter.

i don't think he was overrated, he was an absolute animal for a few years.

i'm not sure what has happened to him, it's probably psychological, but he was too good for his talent to disappear. he's too good not to get his mojo back at some point imo.
