Too much for a Bench Warmer?

http://www.burtonmail.co.uk/Sport/Burton-Albion-FC/Keeper-could-leg-it-for-a-six-figure-fee-27062011.htm
I have really paid this any notice before but when I really think about it and it's a completely pointless signing. I have heard its £200,000 but when you think about it he will only sit on the bench! Before anyone says he is young and got potential REMEMBER Fielding is younger and will also be starting all the games getting first team experience. It may be great to have two good keepers but as Man City showed it will be hard to keep both happy. What is also the point in having Deeney if he is that bad that instead of using Deeney when our keeper is injured Clough the man who brought him here loans a new keeper?!
Personally think even though this new goalkeeper is a good talent he is not needed here unless he will play first team which I doubt and also the money could be better spent in a new left back or shutting up these Scotts complaining about compensation.

no one specifically but commenting on the mindset of people who look at situations with a very narrow and hyper-critical view. its a case of worrying out of ignorance.

mind you, i probably worded it stronger than i meant if.

Kernow, are you looking forward to the coming season geezer? Do you think we have all the ammunition we need for the 2011/2012 season?

For me, I'm still waiting for the left back, and I've said this on numerous occasions, the experienced championship striker, who is going to get us 15+ goals, also the holding mid-field player!!

i'm really pleased to see the positive intent from all quarters of the club- not only does it look like they actually have a plan, it would appear they are even serious about putting it in to action.

we actually look like one of the ambitious clubs of the league which in itself will make us more attractive to ambitious players.

i think we have made some good buys in fielding and shackell and im very interested to see these scottish lads. not sure we needed robinson AND tyson though but heyho.

there will be more comings and goings and i hope one of those is a top draw left back and i wouldnt mind that mythical beast- the 20 goal a season striker either.

oh yeah, im also very pleased to hear we refused to sell brayford as well. very wise decision.

gse and nigel both KNOW they are in last chance saloon.....

Nobody said that Kernow. I simply explained how the initial post about a GK and wasted funds could have ended up talking about a left back.

I was answering the chap who wrote the article as he queried it.

Refrain from calling people muppets please, especially when nobody suggested we couldn't buy a left back because we are linked with a keeper which seemed to be the base of your rant.

why is getting this goalie wasted funds when you dont know what the clubs intentions are regarding goalkeepers?
are you presuming no other goalies will be leaving the club to come to that conclusion?
ross atkins may well be going to burton, bywater is up for sale and deeney is still injured. we havnt even got savage to play in goal either.

Goalies are leaving that is undoubted but I would Derby don't have limitless funds and £200k in the championship is a substantial amount of money. Fielding will start there is no doubt and Legz will be on the bench always good t have a spare goalkeeper but I remember the last manager who got us in to the premier league did not even put a sub goalkeeper on the bench he thought it was that rare for a goalkeeper to get injured. Atkins won't be sold he will be on loan at most and probably a recall option and if it gets that severe we can do a loan like we did last season. There are many options rather then spending £200k on a goalkeeper that will only get played if Fielding gets injured or sold and out of those two I think he would be more likely to be sold before injured.

Former Burton goalkeeper Matt Duke is also training with Derby during pre-season.
