Moderators?

How many is there and can people apply to be a moderator out of goodwill? How are the JA606 team going to implement such a thing?

We don't have a moderation team anything like the size of the beeb. We have received many moderator volunteer requests. However to incorporate trusted mods will require us to write the feature into the software. These tasks aren't trivial, so for the moment we are managing as best we can.

Spam filter

Quick question to mods, is colourful language sensored? Not that I'm easily offended but I've had problems getting on some alternative 606 sites while at work due to web marshall and I can't stand the thought of actually working for 8 hours a day for someone else.

Our custom Swear filter and Akismet spam filter are on, so I hope you can access it at your work. The spam filter is to a large extent outwith our control, but we do need it otherwise the site would get clogged down with invitations for money making ventures and lotteries etc.

As this article has the ear of Admin, any chance of putting the "View all XX comments" link at the top of the page as well as the bottom? Only a small thing, but it'd be handy.

btw, good job!

The trouble with moderators is that they can become 'cliquey' unintentionally, but rather rapidly.
It's very difficult to stay objective sometimes, and perhaps 'let things ride'.

That side, as the operator of such a forum, there are legal responsibilities to uphold too.

We need only look to the recent Twitter issues to see the potential for that.
Admittedly, Twitter (at the moment) are not under any threat, merely being asked to provide information in the course of a legal enquiry, but it's much harder to avoid being in trouble when you're running a small scale (in terms of business) forum.

You only need one idiot to post allegations and somebody to argue that you're implicated by way of not making adequate effort to police such things.

tricky... very tricky...
