With Man City looking for all the world

like premiership champions this year after spending, including wages, close to a billion pounds, is it possible to win the premiership now without spending that sort of money. Chelsea came from nowhere with the aid of spend, spend, spend to win the title, Man United have broken the British transfer record four or five teams whilst winning lots of sof titles.

So despite Spurs have a really good team, is it possible to win the title, given that they have spent nowhere near what Man City, Chelsea and Man United have to win their titles.

In essence is buying the title the way forward now?

Pretty much or not quite the same?

Our recent history has been poor by our own standards, but in that time we never dropped out of the top flight and won a couple of trophies.

Your recent history suggested you were not going to win anything and might well have gone back to a bit of yoyo-ing.

Not sure why you're starting us, it was a simple question "can the league be won again without buying it?" Why get offended? are you going to tell us you haven't bought it? Are you saying you were knocking on the champions league door before the money turned up? were you competing in numerous finals before the money turned up?

Do you believe Chelsea would have had all their success had the russian not turned up.

Lets get one thing straight neither City or chelseas owners will ever see a profit from these two football clubs, all other clubs have to at least break even over time or the owners would pull out.

Manchester United says its revenues for the last six months of 2011 increased to £175m, as it released its latest financial figures.

It is an increase of £18.5m on the Old Trafford club's revenues for the same period last year.

The Premier League club said debt was £439m at the end of 2011, less than the £508m reported 12 months previously.

Last year, United said it would partially float on the Singapore Stock Exchange, but that has yet to happen.

The team, currently second to rivals Manchester City in the Premier League, are also competing in the Europa League.

Match day revenues (up from £52.4m to £54.5m), media revenue (up from £53.7m to £60.9m) and commercial revenue (up from £50.4m to £58.6m) were all ahead

So they are self sufficient.

They can still be accused of buying success, albeit from a position that their fans can be more proud of than City's

I think the one thing this article is showing is that Chelsea and now Man City have bought all their recent trophiss and Man United are borrowing money at a very unhealthy rate to win their trophies.

If you cast your mind back to 99 when united won the treble, they were the world's first sports club valued at over 1bn, since then the glazers made a leveraged buyout of the club, something quite common in the U.S, thus putting the club in debt to raise the finances needed to acquire it, if you believe united are existing beyond their means then you need to do a bit more research.

I think you also need to do a bit of research into why their are so many clubs going into administration in the past 5 years because they are all borrowing money that they are no chance of paying back. Man Untied are to my knowledge nearly three-quarters of a billion in debt.

Debt in the new modern world will not now be tolerated.

Three quarters of a billion, maths not your strong point then?

1 billion is a thousand million, so how is 439m three quarters of a billion?

Have to believe that there is a new Cloughie out there, who is capable of assembling a mixture of old hands + youngsters to do another Forest.

That is why Swansea have been so pleasing to watch and track this season.
