Thanks so much cityfox - the memories came flooding back (1963 only)! Funny how your memory can play tricks though as I always thought Keyworth's brilliant headed goal was scored at the other end. Maybe Alzheimers kicking in.

Thanks very much Cityfox for the splendid link, was still in short trousers (just) for the '63 final but enjoyed the technicolour experience. And to think we had the England goalie, definitely at fault for 2 of their goals. I also spotted a most dreadful comb-over and it wasn't Bobby Charlton's either !

Just to round-off a marvellous day I treated myself to the delights from the 1961 and 1969 Finals.

Yes, fyldefox, not without a sense of guilt and treachery, I too had to blame Banks for two of United's goals.

And I had forgotten quite what a star was Stringfellow.

Some wonderful looking characters in the crowd - almost a different species, somehow.

Wonderful stuff- our lads playing in front of 100,000 people! What was that commentator implying at the beginning, saying we got to the final on "sheer teamwork"? Cheeky git.
I don't remember this final but I was at the '69 one, and was privileged to have watched Stringy in the last few years of his career. "Come on without, come on within..."
Seeing Cantwell lift the cup reminded me of our old terraces chant "Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, that is the name of that b****** Cantwell!"

painful but enjoyable at the same time,my dad always said till the day he died that that second goal against wolves was NEVER offside and this is the first time ive seen it, thank you cityfox i now know he was correct!! how many times have we been on the wrong end of a bad descision at wembley?

Thanks for the links cityfox – a bit like watching 'The Day of the Jackal', tense and exciting, but you just know how it's going to end.

Absolutely, it was probably only 'sheer teamwork' that got us a 4th place finish in the league that season too, and the 'star' quality of Utd that got them 19th.

Although he looked really good in the 63 film and was a favourite, I remember Stringy being an incredibly frustrating player to watch. Real pace, could beat his man, but so often would then beat himself. (That said, he did knock a few in with his head). I can recall a few invitations from the kop to 'come on Stringy, hit him with your handbag' when he seemed to dither while trying to beat an opponent.

I'm afraid I don't gain any 'pleasure' from seeing City get beaten at Wembley, having fought so hard to get there in the first place.

I do hope I didn't come over as being disrepectful in my last comment John (foreverafox). No offence was intended. Perhaps I have suffered for too long with a club almost 'permanently in the shadows' and it has finally affected me.
