Venky's not planning fire sale

Blackburn's owners have made it clear that they do not want to lose any more key players after reluctantly allowing Chris Samba to head out of Ewood Park.

"We hope Chris Samba will be the last key departure. There are no plans to sell any more key players because we want to improve the squad. "
Venky's representative Vineeth Rao Quotes of the week

Samba secured a move to Anzhi Makhachkala earlier in February and there have been suggestions that others could soon follow him out the exit door.

Vince Grella and Michel Salgado are among those tipped to leave, with the transfer windows still open in Asia and America.

However, Venky's representative and Rovers director Vineeth Rao has dismissed the speculation and insisted that everyone at the club is focused on avoiding relegation from the Premier League.

Rao also hopes that Rovers will be able to strengthen their squad in the summer ahead of next season's top-flight campaign.

Speaking about a possible fire sale, Rao told the Lancashire Telegraph: "There are no plans like that there, that is ridiculous.

"There are no plans to sell any more key players, why would there be? Our immediate focus is on staying up in the Premier League.

Respect his wishes

"We hope Chris Samba will be the last key departure. There are no plans to sell any more key players because we want to improve the squad.

"We want to add to the squad and improve it, not sell the players we have got. We are not planning on selling any more key players."

Rao also maintains that Venky's had wanted to keep Samba, but ultimately decided they had no choice but to let him leave following a transfer request.

"It was not even our intention to sell Chris Samba," said Rao. "We did not want to sell him.

"We wanted him on the pitch because he has been a big player but in the end we had to respect his wishes because he wanted to leave.

"We had to respect his wishes. He has played for Blackburn for five years and has been a very important player."

So, do we have any cause to believe them this time?

I'd love to see a day in the life of Vince Grella. What does that guy do all day?

Morning: Wake up, stretch, doslocated shoulder. Spend morning in the treament room.

Afternoon: Step outside, breather in the fresh air, pull hamstring, spend a few hours in the physio's office.

Evening: Leave physio, drive home, rupture quad changing gear. Spend the next week in hospital.

End of the month: Pick up pay cheque.

To be honest after their first few months of crazy comments, I've been struck by how well Venkys and their advisors come across in interviews. I think thats why they still had fans wanting to believe in them a year after taking over. This interview is no different, says the right thinks, appears reasonable and logical, makes reassuring promises. But I think most of us know better by now.

Does anyone still believe a word they say? No-one I know is falling for it anymore. Sounds like more of the same bola bola to me.

Key players? Who are they on about? The key player has just left for Russia.

Who believes what a Venky says?

I have this image of the spokesman saying this in a car park whilst behind them you can hear a football agent on the phone trying to sell Scott Dann.

We'll continue to see a leaching away of the talent

"It was not even our intention to sell Chris Samba"

but we did anyways. Its ok though, we got Bradley Orr....and can;t get relegated.

The thing is, previously the club didn't say much but when they did you could believe them. Now its pointless waffle with a media play rather than to appeal to fans.
