because then we'll just get ridiculous delusions of grandure that we are any good.
Then before you know it the country will be behind the team again, flags will be all over the place...before the inevitable crash in the Euro's when the group stage has completed.
It just gets messy & isn't worth it
I hope we don't spank Holland 2nite

How come every friendly England play is at home?

So we can help pay for the soul-less bowl that is the new Wembley

personally I hope we win - but then i hope 'my' team win every game. it's kind of what being a fan is all about.
as for "Then before you know it the country will be behind the team again, flags will be all over the place..." that's kind of what a football fan is supposed to do. it's called supporting your team.
I really don't get the apathy towards our national team. yes, they're a little bit rubbish at the moment - but that's the time a team needs it's fans behind it all the more!

At the moment....
Tell me the last time they were decent
Euro 96 comes to mind personally & we were home then
Much as i love England to do well - i'm just being realistic

and until they're doing well you won't support them?

what i am trying to say is i don't care that they're not a lot of cop - they are still my national team, and will still have my full backing.

I generally cba with the national team, and have never enjoyed watching England to be honest. Interest slightly peaked with the younger players and a few loathsome individuals out of the team. However, International football is just something I enjoy to watch without the stress of caring who wins. Which means that mostly I try to find something else to watch when the Ingurland are playing, a better quality of football, San Marino vs Fiji say.
