First of all let's be clear about one thing, it isn't a foregone conclusion that Ben the Benevolent will kick Peschisolido out of the Pirelli Stadium door tomorrow, but as with anything football-related there is already a great deal of conjecture about a replacement. What surprises me is one name that has suddenly cropped up from nowhere - Martin Allen.
For the life of me I can't figure out why.
This is a man who has put his faith into a rather crude form of kick-and-rush football, hoofing the ball up the pitch for a whippet-like player to run on to. Isn't that a complete desecration of the football we as Brewers fans like to see played? After all haven't we all at some point or other moaned on here about this approach these last two seasons? Well if Allen were to sign up to Ben's vision that would be our staple diet.
There has also been a lot written on here about Peschisolido's lack of knowledge about the lower leagues and the gems that can be found playing there, and that what is needed is a manager who can tap into this pool of talent. Well the reverse could be expected if Allen were to breeze into Burton as this is the man with a track-record of filling his team with ageing professionals from higher up in the game. Hang on a minute, isn't that what we've complained about with the current manager? I only have to think of Richard Jackson and Darren Moore to have a wry smile here, but look at any squad Allen has put together and you'll see alarming similarities.
This is also a man who has never stayed long at any club he has managed, has had a fractious relationship with various boards and hasn't shown great loyalty to anyone (ask Barnet and MK Dons in particular about that). Cheltenham Town supporters rate him as one of their worst ever managers and he has quit clubs for a perceived lack of ambition by the directors. How long would he remain at the Pirelli with Ben keeping a tight hold of the purse strings?
Sorry, but I think people clamouring for Allen are being dazzled by the "reputation" he carries rather than the reality. Isn't he actually just an older, louder, madder, more experienced version of what we've already got?
Martin Allen. Why?

I doubt Martin Allen will be in the frame,i can't see him working with Ben irrespective of anything else.
Mark Robbins lives in the area, had a brief spell with us as a player and may be a possible. Brian Laws at Alfreton is another,he has done well in adversity and has worked well on a limited budget plus knows the lower leagues better than anyone. Further than that i don't know who is available or who might seek the job.
If Pesch goes and its still an if, Ben is not likely to panic into a rush decision, thats not his character.

I think it is only myself that is advocating we recruit the Mad Dog so I shall explain.
1) He picked up a doomed club (Barnet) that were already booking their travel to Braintree and Hayes and Yeading and turned it around in next to no time giving them a winning mentality that ensured their survival. The team that I saw us dismantle us 4-1 played good football.
2) Notts County are 6th in League 1 after nearly being relegated in the preceding season until he took over.
3) He is available.
4) He certainly has that touchline passion, enthusiasm and motivational ability that we all seek.
5) He is better than what we have.
6) I think the good players we have would stay if he was there and I think he is the sort of manager who could bring players in.
7) I think we would be promoted next season if he were in charge.
8) His win ratio as a manager is extremely good.
I recognise all of the arguments against him being our manager WednesburyBrewer and agree that there are risks. However, the positives above outweigh the negatives in my opinion.

Otep, you've softened my stance a little.
Would prefer Robins though!

It's not going to happen in a million years, but if the team can scrape through by any means this season and then Graham Westley decides that Preston isn't for him..
Yeah, yeah, I know..
