DOUG

I totally agree with the recent posts about the appeals of relegation. No-one would wish for their club to be relegated, and lets face it - if we did go down; the likelihood is that AM would stay to get us back in the Prem

So there we are, stuck with AM, wallowing in the depths of the premiership until RL sees fit to make a change. I never thought I would say this - but where is Deadly when you need him ?- he would not have tolerated this nonsense.

The best change Randy could make is SELL the villa to somebody who cares about the club ,and doesn't employ managers with 2 (TWO) relegations on their c v

I know what you mean. Doug's reign had some low spots, very low spots in fact, but his choice of managers was on the whole good, even if he didn't back them once he'd got them. He never hesitated to shift them out when things were deteriorating. He'd have found somebody better than McLeish, and on this season's showing no way would the manager have stayed in place.

Paying Blues for the manager who'd just taken Blues down? Come on, that wasn't Doug!

Yep, pretty much agree. When push came to shove, Ellis cared immensely about Aston Villa Football Club. He was a businessman and obviously didn't put in what some fans felt he should, but pretty much all his managerial appointments came with a good record. O'Leary, Atkinson, Taylor and Little all came with good reputations, and even Gregory - a relative unknown - proved to be good judgement after he got us to the Fa Cup final and we didn't finish below 8th under him. When Little was struggling after two good seasons, he was pressured into resigning. When Taylor had an atrocious season with us he left at the end of the season. O'Leary, despite having injuries, was dismissed after we finished 16th. Ellis proved with these decisions that he cared about Villa, because Villa should not be anywhere near relegation as a club.

Now no one knows what will happen at the end of the season, but if we finish near the relegation zone - as is looking likely as McLeish can't get the team to win any games - surely McLeish has to go in the summer? If Ellis was here he would without doubt do that, although Ellis would not have appointed him in the first place.

If there are funds available in the summer, I'd rather a manager like Rodgers was given the money as opposed to McLeish. McLeish has proven with N'Zogbia that whilst he can attract decent players - and N'Zogbia is no doubt decent - he struggles to bring the best out of them. I'd like a fresh start this summer, with a list of targets drawn up which don't include average managers like Martinez or McLeish. We need a top quality coach with an established record in the transfer window to take us forward if money is available, because I can see McLeish squandering the money even worse than O'Neill did.
