Maradonna v Messi

I think anybody who saw Maradona play, will say Maradona was the better player, at least anybody I have ever spoken to says this. He did drag a poor Argentina side through to win a World Cup, which no matter what you say is the biggest stage in the world. People say this is a non argument are a bit ignorant because Messi himself said this and I'm sure would swap all his CL titles for one World Cup winners medal.

I'm only 24 but I still remember how good Zizou was and he was very special indeed.

Rooney's being modest there. After all there are some that compare Rooney to Messi.

If Messi used twitter, humble gentleman that he is, he'd probably say Rooney is the best ever.

The differences are never as big as some will have you think, the issue is having the best balance of the different aspects involved in the game. England isn't bereft of technical players, there just aren't enough of them.

Liga defending is said to be poor, but the gpg average for the last 2 or 3 years has been lower than the PL's.

There's also a traditional idea of what defence actually is, and it's mostly limited to what occurs in and around the box. Spain's questioned that approach quite effectively in recent years, using possession and pressure high up the pitch as a means of keeping opponents as far away from the box as possible.
Of course there'll be chances created against and situations they're less adept at defending, but they've struck a reasonably good balance.
