Looking back in time, it is shocking to see how bad United were, more than three years into Fergies reign. With players like Ralph Milne and Jim Leighton in the side it is hardly surprising.

How did Fergie manage to keep his job with this level of performance?
Where United were at the start of 1990.

Context: hadn't won anything in years before Fergie came, deep-rooted problems at the club (weakened youth structure, drinking culture) which Fergie was slowly turning around with his long-term plan. In addition, Fergie had proved his quality / club-building abilities in Scotland.
Despite all that, we can be thankful that Edwards took the long-term view and backed his manager.

i posted something similar yesterday.
people looking at this might actually appreciate what we now have instead of slating certain players every chance they get.
the majority of those who supported united pre 93 are ok, its the majority of the glory hunting fans post 93 are the worst.

Choccy made the most appearances that year. Great striker but very average in midfield.
For all those who say Keane was better than Robbo, Keano had Scholes along side him, Robbo had Choccy.
Choccy's diary was hilarious though.

That league table is unbelievable considering what has gone on since, not just United.
Forest have been relegated to the 3rd tier of english football since then, Luton are out of the football league, Wimbledon don't exist anymore, Chelsea fans would have been happy with 6th place and Liverpool fans could genuinely say, without ridicule, "next year will be our year"
How times have changed.

Still have both a Luton and Wilbledon old programme somewhere...my brother sold a lot of old programmes on E bay but as you say `memories`

I know that
It just seems incredible today that a club as big as United can put that much faith in a manager, being prepared to accept years of mediocrity.
Different times indeed.
Cheers for the link Vidicschin

Elvis,
It was a segment in the Official Club Magazine where Choccy would take us through the week as he saw it, but done with great humour.
Then along came the internet, then tweeting and ruined it all.
