so... why is the prem

so bad football wise, our champions elite got smashed in both the champions league and europa by sides which were supposed to be inferia to them, how can this be?, has the prem become a waste ground for overpriced, overpaid over hyped second rate footballers or has the other leagues caught up. la liga seems to have the 'wow ' factor now , and at a guess not many imports to speak of, certainly not british anyway

good article...you will prob get attacked for dare suggesting United are poor in Europe and told how poor Liverpool are even though thats not the point of your article!...

Theres many reasons...not just confined to English players.

Fergie undoubtedly got it wrong this year and on many occasions in Europe

The defending has been shocking, let's be honest about it.

That's why in the EPL they have had scores in games among the big clubs, such as: 6-1, 5-2, 5-3, 8-2, 3-3 etc.

In Europe it has been found out really badly.

oh not to mention United were beaten in last years final by "the greatest club side ever" coveniently ignoring Basle

I don't think it is the English players argument either, to be honest.

This is Man Utd's worse season in Europe for years, yet they have played more English players than before.

I tend to agree, mate.

But that will be subjective among many people.

I was born in 1977, so to me they are the best club side ever.

Its easy really:

Ronaldo
Alonso
Fabregas
Torres (different person now)
Mascherano
Tevez (disappeared for 6months)

all left (or as good as) and

Drogba
Carra
Lampard
Giggs
Scholes
Carrick
Kuyt
Rio F
Gerrard

all past their best and their replacements are nowhere near as good...its a simple as worldclass talent leaving or getting old and not being replaced; its that simple imo!!

It's a mixture of things.

English talent is not exactly stellar at the moment, either in players or coaches.

The top foreigners are not playing here (a few of them, mainly all at Man City, but not as many as in other recent years).

Lots of our top clubs are going through periods of transition, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool obviously, but even Man Utd are too, they just deal with it better.

The rest of the division are less frivolous with money on fees and wages, recognising that we are in a recession and they don't want to 'do a Portsmouth'.

The product itself has become so ridiculously overhyped that its inevitable it won't meet expectations.

We were never going to dominate in Europe for any length of time because the competition is just too fierce. We had a good few years, but it was never going to last.
