I think he did no better or worst than Cara would have done,

He should start playing more now to get more experience and confidence, and he will improve in time, Cara will only make more mistakes as time goes on the more he is in the team.

that's my opinion anyway, he should now be ahead of Cara, and hopefully will be.

The only positive from that game..

At least Coates seems to have been elevated to 3rd choice centre-back; if he makes mistakes, there's every chance that he'll learn from them and improve, whereas Carra's mistakes are a part of a terminal decline in his abilities. It makes sense to start Coates if there's an injury to Skrtel or Agger.

He misread a couple of high balls early on. Maybe it was nerves, maybe that it was a wind tunnel at the ground. maybe a little of both.

But then he settled and was very solid for the remainder.

Thought he looked promising, CB hit peak much later than other players and he looks good already

there was a bad wind at the game... mostly lfc fans snoring due to the bad showing... but i digress.

there was a swirling wind that didn't help anyone and the pitch wasn't the best so coates did ok i thought. him and skertl had to play sunderland on thier own seeing our midfield is awful.
