Liverpool under 19's are currently playing Ajax under 19's in the semi-final of the Nextgen tournament. Just wondered what everyone thinks of our current youth team and our chances of winning tonight.
Nextgen- Liverpool Vs Ajax

Ajax have the world's best youth academy, even better than La Masia which was Johan Cruyff's influence anyway.
I totally expected our lads to lose tonight, shame it was by so many.
At least that will put the argument to bed about Sterling playing just yet.

It really was men v boys out there and if there were any egos getting too big then that was a reality check.
Even so it's a great achievement to get so far in the competition considering how well established the other academies are.

Didn't we scrape through the group stages and go through by default against Spurs though?
Every game they play is great experience though. Great idea for a competition.

I think Spurs new what was coming, and let us take a beating instead. Good job we have Rudolpho to put our broken team back together.
The scary thing was that there's not that much of a age gap between the two sets of players but a massive gulf in progress. We need to learn from that.

Exactly, at that stage it's not about winning the tournaments but it's a learning experience. We were never going to beat Ajax but we can learn from them.
Always said we should set up our own version of La Masia, bring the kids into a boarding school at a young age, it would make the world of difference in 10-15 years.

There were two differences between the teams.
1) Ajax were comfortable on the ball at the back.
2) Ajax were clinical.

Can't agree more it's not just about the game at this stage but life as well, it's already been documented that Raheem Sterling has had his problems at the Acadamy and our youth culture is very different from abroad as I'm sure you know. An education alongside football is a must.

that was a hell of a beating, (should keep quite after Tuesday)
Part of the problem with young players in this country, is that they are given to much to soon, agree with post further up,, English academy's should set up boarding schools in there academy and look at a more holistic approach to bringing the youngsters through

Compared to Ajax youths, lfc youths have done nothing. Few of the players that gave the lfc youths the beating had already played in the CL for Ajax.
