THAT Vermaelen Goal!

Ok, I think I may be the only one guilty of this. I recorded the game against Newcastle, and each day since we beat them, I have replayed that magical moment when Vermaelen scored over and over and over again.

From the moment the throw was taken by Newcastle, to Gibbs intercepting the throw with a header, to Arteta and Ramsey tussling to keep hold of the ball, which fell loose to Alex Song, who fed Van Persie, who lost the ball, which was quickly recovered again by Alex Song, who then fed Theo Walcott on the far right. All this while, Vermaelen (who was a little hesitant at first to bomb forward due to his defensive responsibilities) as well as Aaron Ramsey ran the full length of the pitch to engage in the action. Walcott held the ball up until Van Persie and Ramsey were in decent positions before lobbing the ball over the Newcastle defense to them for a header. They collided in the air and the ball fell gratefully to the onrushing Vermaelen who made no mistake from about 4 yards.

What was so priceless is how the entire Newcastle defense looked on in absolute shock as we celebrated the winning goal. And what was even more exciting was how Tomas Rosicky jumped off from the bench and threw away his jacket, running onto the pitch, then some young lad hugging Arsene Wenger. It was just a moment of sheer joy!!!

Priceless!

I suspect Wenger trusts Koscielny and Vermaelen more to shore things at the back than Mert.

But when we are going for a goal, as against Milan, then why keep TV, one of the top scoring defenders in the PL, at the back.

Mertesacker goals for Arsenal 0
Vermaelen goals for Arsenal 12

Which one would you put your money on getting a goal?

Last thing at night before I go to bed (accidentally deleted the Newcastle game)! Are we incredibly sad?

If I'm being honest, i'd say yes!
But my doctor would just call it "real passion"!

Gary Neville's commentary on it is ace, when RVP's shot goes in on slo-mo looking at the goal he just goes, "Woooooow..."
