He missed most of that season after surgery on a slipped disc, which is a very tricky injury. He came back a few games before the end of the season and was on great form, but Del Bosque was already taking Torres and Iniesta with niggling injuries and he said he was forced to hedge his bets.
He was fantastic last season too, Villarreal have missed him big time.
