Afternoon tennis fans. Am usually posting on the football board but have got the Kvitova/Azarenka match on at the moment. I also caught Sharapova's match a couple of days ago. Now I don't follow tennis all year round but I do watch Wimbledon.
Could those of you whom follow tennis more closely than me answer me a question please:
Can Azarenka and Sharapova actually play tennis or is thier one skill smashing the ball as hard as they can whilst shrieking as loudly as possible, no doubt distracting thier opposition?
I ask because I have yet to see a drop shot or volley from either player. All they do is stand at the baseline going...

Having watched the men's quarters yesterday, the same could be said of Rafael Nadal.

Him though, I have seen actually play tennis and mix it up when needs be. Also he doesn't yell with EVERY SINGLE shot he plays. These two are ridiculous, I can't see how that is allowed. It's bugging me and I'm watching it on the TV. I can only imagine how irritating it must be to play against either of them. Someone needs to make them quit it. It's nothing more than gamesmanship.

It was Jimmy Connors in 1974 who actually started the grunting.

anyone else thinks that the camera person has the hots for Sharapova. I mean even if she loses a point it still goes onto her, not that i'm complaning.

If Sharapove can eliminate her double faults she'll be immense. There really aren't that many good ground stroke players in the game anymore, she stands out by a fair bit.

Plus I don't mind the grunting if it's done by someone hot <wink>

Ergh the grunting is just awful. I'm quite glad I didn't get to see Sharapova last week. I would have just felt awkward!
