Will the greatest player to ever breathe on this planet reach 70 goals?
Has that ever been done in modern football?

Watching this video, I don't buy the crap that Messi will only reach Pele, Maradona's status if he wins a WC. In my opinion, he's already surpassed them 2 years ago. Fact is, Pele & Maradona played in a time where the defenders had part-time jobs as waiters. They played in a time where midfielders would light up a cigarette at half time.
Modern football is a whole different animal. Messi is the greatest and I don't think they'll be anyone who'll ever reach the heights he's reached.
And the scary thing is that he's only 24.
Can Messi Reach 70 Goals?

or Pele not being impotent or Best being also off his face......
all equal in legend status but Messi does seem to be something else all together

Messi is mad. Just no one like him at the moment. Even Ronaldo has to work to score, Messi makes everything look so, so easy.

Messi with Argentina 2005-2012
Must watch. If Rooney did this for England, we'll be creaming ourselves

That's rubbish. And so is judging them by the number of goals scored.
You can only judge them through watching them - a lot - and then deciding for yourself as a matter of personal preferences. There is no 'best', there are only favourites.

Very ignorant remark. I wasn't around in Pele's time, but if they had any part time jobs in Maradona's day, it was as butchers - for which they served their apprenticeships on the pitch.

I hate it when people include Best's name in all this all-time debates. I wouldn't rate Best as high as Ronaldo de Lima or C. Ronaldo or Ronaldinho. He's nowhere near the class of Messi.

Just out of interest, were you around to see Best in his prime? (Fair enough if you were)

Yeah Messi reaching 70 gols would just be phenomenal. Most top strikers require two and a bit seasons to reach that many. I really hope he does.
18 potential games to play, 20 goals to score...yep possible.

I can't deny I depend on lots of archival footage but he isn't as good as the players mentioned. Justanother case of British overhype. I forgot to add the likes of Cryuff and Dei Stefano to those I'd comfortably put above him. He's likely one of those like Gazza whose eccentric lifestyle only added to their legend and hype rather than taint it.

He just scored an unbelievable chip against Sevilla.
So yeah, with around 16 games left this season, he certainly could reach 70.
Personally I think he will get around 65.
