Dutch Tournament Summary and Awards

So the Dutch tournament concluded with PsychoGooner being crowned the victor, with steel like defense conceding 0 goals, he stifled the opposition and used his strong Ajax team to his full advantage. Well done to him, a far cry from Dunfermline he got in the SPL tournament.

A round up of the groups saw many of my predictions go to form, Group A was pretty straightforward for with TopLad and Kent easing through. Tomkins and RVP also making light work of their group, despite Ludy putting in a decent performance. And Group D saw Psycho and reigning champion Junior seal there places in the last 8. The best action in the group stages was in group C and I dubbed it the ‘group of death’ it certainly lived up to that tag. It started off with tournament favourite Vela hammering Andrei 7 – 2 with second tournament favourite myself being held to a shock 3 – 3 draw with newcomer Spursboy. Spursboy went on to beat tournament favourite Vela 1 -0 whilst I got destroyed essentially by Andrei 5 – 3, it was shaping up for a photo finish. Spursboy got the point he needed to progress with a 0 – 0 draw against Andrei, whilst I beat Vela 2 – 1 sending the tournament favourite out and having a huge slice of luck by beating Andrei on goal difference, the same Andrei who thrashed me, but thanks to Vela trashing him I progressed, thanks Vela! One heck of a weird group.

So in this tournament we had the luxury of a quarter-final stage. This marked the end for reigning champ Junior as newcomer Spursboy continued his impressive run up and snatched a golden goal to beat our champ 1 – 0, so it was goodbye Junior. Semi-finalists from the last tournament Kent was up against and impressive Tomkins, Kent thumped him 6 – 1 and our Tomkins suffered somewhat of a mental breakdown after that, I don’t think he has yet recovered fully. Then myself was up against Psycho in a frustrating match for myself, an early deflected own goal for Psycho gave him the lead and despite a few decent chances for Psycho I started to pressure him big time, but it wasn’t to be, his defence remained defiant and snatched two late goals to record a 3 – 0 victory. Now for the bad part of the tournament, flop of the SPL tournament TopLad was due to play RVP who went for a quick 10 min break, fair enough. Then TopLad absconded for nearly half an hour which prompted RVP to leave, so to protect the integrity of the tournament I had no choice but to kick both of em out sending Psycho through to the final.

So our only semi-final was Kent and Spursboy, very impressive both of them. The match was very close as I expected it to be, but Kent went one better than last time and secured a golden goal victory, sending Spursboy out, much credit to the newcomer though, I don’t think his odds will be as long in the future!

So here it is Kent v Psycho the final match. The general consensus amongst the lads wanted a Kent victory due to Psycho’s lack of semi-final game; however Psycho was in no mood to give them what they wanted. In typical fashion of what he has been like this tournament he stifled Kent and recorded a sweet 3 – 0 victory, no goals conceded, you may have mocked him for not scoring any goals last time round, but now look at you. Brilliant overall performance, be proud my friend!
