I have noticed and often wondered why folks shower so much love on Gerrard and not Lampard, I'm I missing something, what exactly has Frank done or done wrong or refused to do for his country that makes him so unappreciated. Imo, Gerrard has got nothing on Lampard, if Frank was a Utd player he would have been the most celebrated English player. Well anyway, when we are all dead and gone, the new generation will look at his goals and crown him the all time best English player which he deserves.

Lampard is the highest scoring midfielder in prem history,
He is the best at what he does which is a true fact, we have to remember how many great CM's have played in the prem over the years
But to have that title of the best goalscoring midfielder of all time and to be English aswell, just really baffles me why he is not celebrated so much more

At their peaks;
For a one off final - I'd take have taken Gerrard.
Over the course of the season - Lampard every day of the week.

Gerrard has put in more influential displays for his club
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
But has he though?
In 2009 Lampard was voted as the Premiership player of the decade by OPTA after analysis of all games since 2000 showed that he had the greatest individual win ratio, had the second highest number of assists and the fourth highest scoring goal record.
Following on from that, in 2010 Lampard scored 20 league goals whilst also creating more goal scoring chances than any other player.
Now people may dismiss stats, but aren't the above facts the very things that can be proven to influence games?
Gerrard may revel in the glory of his Roy of the Rovers impressions, but personally I'd rather have the week in week out contributions that Lampard provides rather than the positional indiscipline offset by the odd wonder strike that has characterised my overall impression of Gerrard.

From an outside point of view, I can say Gerrard was the only one who left WC2010 with any sort of pride intact.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you modified that statement to say that up to the end of the first half against the mighty USA, Gerrards pride was intact, then I might almost agree with you.
After that, his performances were every bit as dire as the rest of the team and I'd even go so far as to say that his chasing around after the ball whilst ignoring any positional responsibilities actually caused more problems within his own team than it hurt the opposition.
To be fair to him, I have never entirely slated his captaincy for the debacle that happened in South Africa, as I think there was a whole bunch of causes for that.
But his lack of leadership, both on and off the pitch, during that tournament means that I think Pearce was right to ignore him for the armband in the recent game.

chelseanuts - Everyone knows the players around Lampard in the last decade have been of better quality, than those around Gerrard. That way when Gerrard puts in a shift it looks to stand out more than when Lampard does it and in many cases like against Everton the other day, he's been required to put in those shifts to help a struggling team along.
