After agreeing terms with Sunderland, Craigy Gardner has undergone his first interview as a Sunderland player.
“I wish I signed for Sunderland when I was 15 and I know these will be the best days of my life. I'm a Sunderland fan
I nearly came through the ranks here, but I come to as many games as possible and nothing can be better. I used to be on the, urm...NORTH stand, I think it's called. I was watching when we beat Chelsea 3-0 away in the league...yeah, I remember watching that game on MOTD.
I was at the game when Asamoah Gyan scored that goal and we all ran on to the pitch so it’s come from that. When I was watching Sunderland as a kid there were people like Niall Quinn, Kevin Phillips and...urm...
*Craig quickly whips out his iPhone and opens up Wikipedia*
...Tor Andre Flo. Oh, wow. He played for Sunderland? Cool.
They were all brilliant. I used to sing their names and now I look at the crowd and they’re chanting my name so it’s great."
Bye Craig. You're a true Royal Blue. And Claret. And Red, White and whatever colour that will pay you the most money.

JK
I was gonna come and post that...
I heard about 40 min ago its a £6M deal, with lower downpayment.
So indeed seems £4.5M that can rise to £6M for the CM who had a massive impact for our club last season.
I they are prepared to let £3M Gardner go for £4.5M that can rise to £6M then i cant see why they wont let £8M Jerome/Dann go for £12M that can rise to £16M
By same token does that mean Johnson will be off for £7.5M that can rise to £10M
As it seem to be sell for double what we paid but with a downpayment thats 1.5X what we paid.
So when its all said and done the £16M Johnson, Dann, Gardner and Jerome cost us will make us £24M that can rise to £32M.
Foster costs £6M but i cant see anyone bid £10M and the bother Yeung is in now could well see him go for what £6M that can rise to £8M?
Oh well Foster only cost us £4M as the rest depended on our Prem status and England caps, so £4M X1.5 is £6M
So i dont know how happy everyone is with maybe only getting £30M that can rise to £40M for those players.
I guess we should look at them costing us £20M, even though i think we should have looked at getting £40M Garunteed for them or more.

"Obviously, I have heard so much about Steve Bruce and his backroom staff and how good a chairman Niall Quinn is"
I bet he has from Blues and hs is not far off.
"It's such a massive club and their ambitions for this season meet my ambitions, and it was too good to turn down."
Fair play Sunderland are the bigger club, but no mention of how hard a decition it was to leave us, seems like he ant bothered much.
BEST BIT IS....
"Obviously, we want to finish as high up the table as we can - we want to be in Europe next year and it's a great task to go and chase."
Muppet, he wants to go to Sunderland because they will hopefully be in Europe next year
Well your boyhood Club you know the one you was playing with last season have already qualified for Europe we will be playing in Europe without this season Craig, and while Sunderland are a bigger club you cant Garuntee they will Win Trophies or get into Europe over next few seasons.
Maybe had you not thrown silly handbags and then decided to try and cheat by diving Blues would have gone on to beat Wolves and you would have been playing in the Prem and in Europe with your favorite club
Oh well dont forget to close the door on the way out!
Wish him all the best, but where is the loyalty man, he wants to go to Sunderland because they got good chance of getting Cups and in Europe yet at Blues he won a Trophy and now we are in Europe and to the latter stage than the one Fulham and Stoke have to go through.
Well had Gardner not been very silly that day we would have maybe stayed up, i wonder if he looks back and thinks
"if only i was not stupid that day by getting sent off, maybe we would have Won and stayed up"

You are deluded if you think he is worth more than 4.5 mil. We sold Ashley Young for only 16 or so mil. Gardner wasn't good enough for Villa, but he was too good for Blues. He has found the right club now. He was truly awful at Villa, only flashes of talent.

He was pretty awful for us at times,it was the goals that hid the weakness in his play. kro.

I think the Sun down under has gone to your brain
So Gardner never did well for you, did he have many chances
Villa want DJ Campbell and he was a Blues flop he never did well with us, but then he was not given a huge number of chances either.
It is you Villan who is deluded
Gardner got chances for us and he showed he is worth more than waste of space your lot thought he was.
Last season 10 goals from a CM who played in a negative side who created the least chances, the least shots and only Won a single Penalty is a very good return.
Sunderland Sold Henderson for £20M more than Young got sold for, does that mean Henderson is better, well Youngs done more for Villa then Henderson has for Sunderland.
Gardner had done more than Henderson last season.
Henderson Prem Games Started 37, Subs 0, Goals 3, Assists 4, Shots 45
Thats 1 goal every 12 games, 1 assist every 9 games and 1 goal per 15 shots.
Gardner Prem Games Started 25, Subs 4, Goals 8, Assists 0, Shots 66
Thats 1 goal every 3.5 Games, goal every 8 shots.
Different players Henderson plays on the wings, but still if he went for £20M Gardner for £6M is a bit of a bargin.

Banjo, I saw Gardner play in a Villa shirt many times both at VP and away. O'Neill played him regularly and he had many chances to show us what he is made of. Granted, many of his games were at RB, but he is a professional footballer is he not? That means he should be able to, I don't know, pass a football to another player 20 metres away? The other poster is right, his goals disguise his deficiences. He will never be good enough for England or a top team, so he has found his level. It's winter here at the moment, not overly sunny, but nice enough. Not deluded, thats just my opinion. Be grateful you had a few years from him anyway like we did Young (mind you, like comparing a Corsa with a Ferarri). I restate: Gardner is AVERAGE. Not good enough for Villa, hardly woth 5 mil.

Oh, and Banjo, so you see a transfer link in the papers and you think it must be true? DJ Campbell linked to Villa in the Sun or some other rubbish paper, must be true!
