liverpool were lucky, as they always are, that they were in pole position to take advantage of a totally defunct competition. had the european cup remained as it was in the 70's and 80's throughout the 90's and 00's united would have won it at least six times, at least, and that's even allowing for the odd shock exit.

Is that a fact? If Liverpool had the best Liverpool sides to continue being at their peak throughout the last 2 decades we'd be destroying you on the trophy count too .
We can all hypothesise.
that doesn't make sense though. the fact that liverpool fell into rapid decline in the early 90's was thier own fault. the fact that the modern day champions league is incomparable to the old european cup however was just bad luck on united's part.
oh right now i get it...
if liverpool fail to win something it is our fault but if united fail to win something it is bad luck...
and you call us delusional...
not what i said. what i did say was that it was unfortunate for united that the european cup had become the champions league by the time we were the best team in england and therefore infinitely harder to win.

Yeah bad luck that United were too crap to win the competition in that period . Don't forget sonny jim that we also won the Champions League in 2005. Same competition under a different name .
I guess you don't count that England won the world cup in 1966, as football was so easy in the past?
Arguments with Ole are as relevant as a boat made out of salt.
again you've missed the point. football was not easy. full credit to liverpool for being the top team domestically at that time and being in a position to win the european cup, but why none of you can just accept and admit that the competition was defunct at that time i don't know. even nottingham forest won it twice, beating part timers in the final one year. which brings me back to my original post on this article, liverpool are the new nottingham forest. on the plus side you'll have 7-3 victory at elland road to look forward to in a few years time.
and you will have to wum yourself....
as what are you going to do whenfergie goes do you honestly believe there will be a smooth transiation?? you have relied on one very successful man for a long time... !!!! whats next...??? nswers on a postcard please
