Sounds like WWE's promotional machine has done a job on you. No shame in that, it's the one part of their organisation which earns it's bread. It's bailed out their writing team on numerous occasions lol

People don't like Cena because underneath he's transparent and shallow, too qualities i wouldn't be proud of. His dismissive attitude towards the people he claims to fight for sums his character up perfectly - misguided, fraudulent and depthless.

The Rock is basically a walking ego trip that the people get to generate. Beyond all the catchphrases It's actually the lil things, like the way he refers to himself in the third person without sounding like a tw1t, that make him special.

Tbh, WWE's build up to this match has been a necessity. They've had to create the illusion that the balance between the two is much more level than it is in order for the match to seem competitive. I'm strongly looking forward to how WWE decides to play this. My respect for them will go through the roof if they have the stomach to avoid Cena winning clean.

The rock goes wwe part time, even if he wins, he will disappear and go film some next movie, as for cena, he should win because he’s there 24/7 and also he doesn’t talk so much crap like rocky boy!

But that does make him sound like a twaat.

Also, I'd argue that all the people who are supporting the Rock are the real ones who have been done by the 'wwe promotional machine'.

I don't like the idea of a has-been who doesn't have the legs to return on a full time basis (much like Lesnar) winning. Pointless imho and can only harm the reputation of the only pro wrestler in the match.

Cena need this win more than The Rock! Can’t wait to laugh at rock when he loses!, that guy just talks everytime, same things as well!

That exact attitude is one of the things that keeps WWE (and wrestling in general) from evolving. This misconception that putting over the part-time wrestler devalues the full-time wrestler. Complete rubbish.

Cena has beaten HHH, HBK, Angle, Y2J, Batista, Orton, Kane, among so many others. Do you honesty believe having him lose to Rock will damage him that much? You're greatly overestimating the fans capacity as a collective to think for themselves. It wouldn't take alot of work to convince these people (the one's who demand Cena win on princple alone) that Cena's credible again. And imo, this match represents an opportunity to give Cena a glass ceiling that can only strengthen his overall character. Part of Cena's disconnection with a large percentage of WWE's following is his invincibility combined with his underdog complex. It doesn't stack up. If he was to lose, or win by betraying his 'moral code', it would give him a shred of depth which the WWE can work from.

The WWE's promotional department has been centred around pushing Cena, giving him just enough intensity not to alienate the kids why'll shackling The Rock and limiting him simply to his catchphrases. Basically making him seem as transparent as Cena effectively

"win by betraying his 'moral code'"

That's how I think it'll go down, or at least I'm hoping.

Maybe, maybe not. But it certainly over-values the part-timer.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why? If the part timer is good enough, and his presence draws (which is the only reason he'd be in this situation), why hasn't he earnt the right to be put over?

It's so funny how wrestling has NO problem what so ever putting over someone not remotely related to their product (e.g. Floyd Mayweather), yet a former employee can't be allowed to get over because of a logicless ideal? Of course all forward planning is based around the full time wrestler, but why wrestling thinks that automatically means having to crush the part time wrestler i'll never understand. All that says to me is the company in question doesn't have enough resources internally to get their employees over, so it has to reach externally.

I'd put Rock over Cena imho. Nobody over the age of 18 gives a flying funk about him. I'm paying too see cena get his ass handed to him.

If the e wouldn't have held back the rock, cena would be buried by now. Cena is the cancer of the wwe.

Nah Cena is better than Rock nowadays and his new Wordlife song and recent buildup in promos and on RAW has been much better than him.
I used to be fan of Cena but then at end of last year I got bored wathcing Cena but Cena has certainly been fantastic with his mind games against Rock recently and buildup to Wrestlemania has been fantastic.
I would love to see Cena beat Rocky cleanly as Cena getting beaten by a part time wrestler would damage his credibilty.

No hes just an awful wrestler he only can do about 5 moves
Hes terrible and boring on the mic
And his gimmick is boring and stale

The Rock was part of the last great era of wrestling
A fantastic character face or heel
Great on the mic

And its painful how hes had to tone down the thrash talk so Cena has a chance against him. He would just bury him every night otherwise.

If Rock left and came back in another 7 years he would still be far superior to Cena

The Rock was one of the main stars in building up the WWF against WCW. Back when Raw would fet ratings 6-8 million a week
Cena and this awful PG era has brought the company back down about 4 million viewrs a week. About time they dumped this bodybuilder who for some reason is the face of their company and brought the attitude back.

After the Hoganesque push he's been granted. If losing to The Rock damages his credibility, it will expose once and for all that he never justified any of that credibility in the first place. A wrestler whose gimmick is dependant on his invincibility isn't a real wrestler.

Cena's fanbase in particuplar are the same people that get behind ShameUs. Helpless victims of the WWE promotional machine. If WWE allow Cena to job for the first time in 8 years, that same machine will make these same low maintance fans forget about it within 8 weeks.

WWF/WWE/RAW hasn't had ratings of 8 million in the last 17 years.

Its not in millions its Neilson ratings I apologise. But look at the ratings from 1999-2000 when the Rock was one of the leading stars. 5-7 was the bracket.

Lets look at 08-09 ratings of 3-4
Time to dump this road they've gone down the last few years with "stars" like Cena. Its awful to watch. And not many people are.

5 stars for the thread. Good healthy debate!

Lesnar is going to destroy someone though! I'll reply properly tomorrow when I'm not drunk

Rock is good but he can be boring with his quotes of fruity pebbles and lady parts speeches
Boring!I can't smell what Rockey is cooking o not.

Rocks clearly had to tone down his speeches, they aren't like the ones he did in his prime.
They couldn't have him go out and destroy cena every night. Which is a sad reflection of the current "talent"
