The form we are in is at least play off form, if we can continue to improve next season as well this is surely the aim

Playoffs , almost as amusing as people talking about a playoff push for us this season.
A reporter from Sky Sports News is Interviewing Nigel Clough and Steve Cotterill. He first asks Nigel what his plans for Derby are next season.
Clough replies "Well, I see us becoming a good championship team, who challenge for the play off positions."
The reporter then puts the same question to Cotterill, who answers "I think that, once we secure automatic promotion, we will be able to mount a successful challenge for the Premier League title and then once in Europe, we will carry off the Champions League within the next 5 years."
"Don't you think that's a little bit over-optimistic, Steve?" asks the Interviewer.
To which Cotterill replies "Well, Nigel started it!"
Straight out the "Banter for Beginners guide" from 1993
Some of us never got on Cotterills back
But I see where you are coming from, even though if Cotterill keeps us up I think it will be more of an achievement than Billy's efforts. McLaren left us in a shambles, the team was unbalanced, obviously didn't get on with the manager and couldn't adapt to his tactics. For Cotterill to turn that around is a massive achievement, and we should all get behind him

cotterill will have achieved what he was appointed for assuming we do stay up so i agree he deserves a bit more credit than he gets.
i can't see anything other than more struggles next season though, he is what he is and he'll have a big job on putting a squad together to keep us up next season.
there will be no repeat of billys first full season, it will be mid table at best, make no mistake about that
Owd fat boy Plums, just cant hide his feelings for me
I do think a lot of fans look at Billy's time with rose tinted glasses, simply because we were starved of anything good happening to us for so long
Yes, we got to the play-offs twice - but we failed both times. He was also a divisive character.
Davies' win ratio as a manager is actually slightly less than Cotterilll's - Billy 40.57% and Steve 40.78% - so again another similarity.
And they have both only acheived one promotion each via the playoffs - Billy in 2007 and Steve in 2002.
I think we will do Ok next season, we will still have Camp, Gunter, Moussi, McGugan, Reid, Blackstock, Tudgay, Cohen (make him captain), Findley, Majewski, Freeman, Lascelles
And I think McCleary, Lynch and Chambers will stay.
If we can get rid of the likes of Miller, Greening, Derbyshire, McGoldrick etc we may be able to free up enough wages to bring in Pep, George, Danny on full time contracts.

A psychology professor decided to study the way in which different people from different parts of the country have **x with sheep. He travelled first to Wales, where he asks a farmer to explain his method: "Well, boyo, I put her back legs down my nice green wellies, grab her with me velcro gloves, and we're well away. Tidy!"
The professor tries Scotland next . "Hoots an' toots man, I put her back legs down my nice green wellies, grab her with me velcro gloves, and we're well away. Och aye tha noo!"
The professor moves on to the Lake District: "Well, I put her back legs down my nice green wellies, grab hers with me velcro gloves, and we're well away. There's nowt more ti it 'yon that."
The professor is noticing a pattern developing, so he decides to try Derbyshire, and then call it a day.
He stops a bloke outside Pride Park, who happens to be our old friend, Serial, and asks him to explain the Derby County method: "Well me duck, I put her back legs down my nice green wellies, sling her front legs over me shoulders, and that's all there is to it!"
The professor is excited to have found some regional variation, and tells Serial that this is very different from the Scots, Welsh and Cumbrians.
"How do they do it then?" asks Serial, and the professor explains. Serial on hearing the explanation walks off disgusted. "What! No kissing?"
Davies is in demand.... he attends loads of interviews..... oh hang on... barge pole Billy
He did a job. A good job.
SC? I'll give him credit. He has turned it around by bringing in some quality. AG has been class and IMO is the reason we are doing so well.

strett (Strettea red) .. are you slowly weening us off your old name via the use of brackets, with the prospect of a new 'easier to type' name?
Strett - Notts County were champions - I said via playoffs
Serial - Had to delete it as it would not accept a particular word and I couldnt get the screen to refresh, so no I am not stupid (I am not a Derby fan!). It was easier to delete and then repost.

There are similarities but the big difference is Billy came with a good record at this level. Cotterill doesn't have that. In fact he has the opposite.
finally a forest supporter who understands what cotterill has been saying. "we have no defence" for some reason all you people couldn't see that. we were playing pretty well lets be fair. the simply fact was, we didn't have a defence to keep the ball out of our net and we didn't have a striker who is consistent enough like blackstock. as soon as we've had these elements we've been showing play-off form which is where we all expected us to be this season.
OP
Give it a rest Sutton. Cotterill is showing currently that he is a good manager, irrespective of his past. We are playing attractive football, creating chances, scoring goals, looking threatening and defending very well.
By your logic he could get us promoted next season, and he would still be a bad manager given his history.
I'll tell you what Hoons, you give it a rest. All this playing attractive football stuff is nonsense. Leicester Derby Coventry And Donny games were all very recent and some of the worst football I've ever seen.
I'm sorry if I insist on looking at a managers whole career in order to judge him. I'll just wait to see how we get on in our next game then either say he's a genius or call for him to be sacked. It's probably better than making an informed decision based on all the information available
