I'm on record of not caring a fig about being ranked number one. But I do hope England can retain that dubious distinction because I know how it will upset so many Aussie and Indian fans.

Instead of rattling on rabbit you should take time to read my posts before opening that cavern you call a mouth. You might actually learn something.

the best no 1s were australia, followed by india and then count 1,2,3 and then its england. australia when they were no.1 they were dominant in tests and odis. india were no.1 in tests and were no.2 in odis, and also won the wc. england were no.1 and were an ok odi outfit. its very hard to judge england as no.1s because they havent been able to win a single test after becoming no.1. so its really hard to say how good a no1 team they are. btw i havent mentioned west indies because there was no ranking back then. but if i ever have to chose who are better no.1s between westindies and australia then my pick would be westindies

India were so proud of being the number one ranked team they put a star on their shirts to celebrate. Has it been removed I wonder.

If India were so great as No1, who did they beat whist they were there? England (I think we know the answer to that one)? Australia? SA?

Just prior to Englands tour against Pakistan and Sri-Lanka every poster on here predicted a walk over.....just like a walk in the park with all the arm chair experts predictions 4-0....one or two plummies said they will have to work hard but still predicted a 3-1 result...

Well they were right I suppose.....it was a walk in the park for Pakistan....

Being so low down in the rankings clearly rankles the Aussie and Indian fans on here. Better look over your shoulders as Pakistan is breathing down your necks.

Your perception of clearly is way off course hopey.....the only thing that is clear on hear is how funny it has been watching chest beaters turn into cry babies in a matter of weeks........tissue companies would be in raptures...

If it's of such minor importance, why rabbit on about it. Pardon the pun.

hmdorch im not talking about the journey to no.1. im talking about what happened after being no.1. The bigger challange for any team that becomes no.1 is how they are going to stay there for that long. England unfortunately havent been able to absorb the pressure. clearly not from how they are performing. You cant give the excuse that the batting line up is rusty. you guys have played the wc in the subcontinent, 5 odis, 3 tests, 4 odis and these 2 tests. india did manage to stay at the top despite not having a grt bowling line up, and when our batting failed, we were exposed fair and square.
people genrally tend to say that the rankings are not fair, but i dont see why they are wrong either. As a no.1 team if you lose to a no.4 team or evn a no.6 team they ur ranking points are bound to go down. You cannot go and lose 3 tests in a row and still remain at the top, whatever the ranking system is. ask jezzer why he is not updating his so called flawed rankings that he put up after england were no.1. its ironic that after england toured pakistan he hasnt updated the rankings, or is he waiting for england to beat sa, and claim that england is the best

viru, your post would be far easier to read if you created paragraphs and used capital letters where required.

Good spot Gambino.
It's much to their chagrin that these intermittent british empires keep getting shorter and shorter in duration as time whiles on.I can already visualise Andy Murray bbeing toppled from his long awaited top spot mere weeks after he gets there.Oh happy days

Not to mention this england team has about as much charisma as their tennis compatriot.
