Ok I'll say it: The Manager of the Month 'curse' is a myth.

MotM tends to be awarded after the team has had a good run of form, and since good runs of form tend not to last forever for most teams, it is inevitable that the team will drop points shortly after the award.

Along with the dreaded vote of confidence from the Chairman - tends to be given as an attempt to lift morale when the team is doing badly, and if they keep on doing badly then sure enough the manager gets the boot.

On this occasion I think the award is very much for Owen Coyle's behavoiur as a MANAGER - exemplary leadership during an unusual and difficult situation

We lost at ManC and beat QPR, B'burn and Wolves, whereas ManU won all 4 of their Prem games!

I do feel that on this occasion there was a bit of emotional bias towards Coyle in awarding him MotM when it should be purely about Premier League performance.

I agree with you Exiled, to be fair to the man he's been outstanding this last month and it would have been a travesty if it had gone to anyone else. Still, I do wonder what they pay him every time he says "Barclay's Premier League".

Yeah Henery Winter's on the panel and he said they gave Coyle the gong due to the results and how the Muamba situation was handled

The stats this season seem to back up the fact that managers of the month don't do too badly afterwards

I hope that remains the case

Think a ruling came out somewhere that Managers HAD to say the exact phrase "Barclay's Premier League"(BPL) due to Barclays being peeved that their sponsorship wasn't getting the recognition.

Most managers have tailed off saying "BPL" except for Owen. A stickler for rules!

Oh and is Bricksy jealous coz he's now got 1 more manager of the month than Megson?

Not even in my equation.

I just feel that the awards have to be "deserved" on the criteria of performance.

You could also argue that Fergies 4 out of 4 was even more miraculous as he's 70 and his faculties must be fading.

The Muamba thing happened in the FA Cup anyway which isn't taken into consideration for the Barclays' MotM.

Think they don't give it to old Taggart due to the fact he's likely to be up there every month. So, unless Man U win 8-0 every week whilst Fergie is tied blindfolded to a whirling dartboard whilst whistling the national anthem from his jocks eye, he aint gonna be considered if someone else wins nearly as much.

To be fair, as Zat so eloquently alluded to, your 3 wins out of 4 by a team that is struggling is a far better achievement than 4 out of 4 for the best team in the country.

Hope for your sake the curse is a myth!! Our manager is up for the same award and winning it always seems to proceed a mini slump in results!!

Whistling the national anthem from his JOCKS eye. haha love it

I get it now Zat.

So, basically, the award should be changed to the "Barclays' Second Best Manager of the Month" award.

Got a ring to it !!

Bricks, you can be such a smeg at times. You know that these things are subjective. Considering what the club has gone through re the Muamba situation, the run of results we've had since and the way Coyle has steered the ship out of the relegation zone; are you seriously saying that Taggart deserves it more because he has managed his settled, content and top 2 team to one extra win? It's all relative I know but even you can't be that curmudgeonly.

Brendan Rodgers ran the Sports Relief mile in March.

Would that have made him a contender for MotM?

No, simply because that has nothing to do with football or management.

Whereas managing a team to victory when one of your players nearly died on the pitch does.

Congratulations to Owen Coyle, our manager, on being awarded manager of the month.
Can't we all be chuffed for him?
For heaven's sake!

Some people are never happy!!!

Some fans are truly pathetic.

United beat Spurs, West Brom, Wolves and Fulham. Fair enough.

We lost to City, but beat Blackburn, QPR and Wolves, the teams we are battling against for survival.

I think alot of fans have an agenda against Coyle, and cannot give him credit for anything.

Weve won 3 on the trot, but because we didnt beat City at the Etihad, were no-one has won this season, and only 2 won there last season, we dont, and Coyle doesnt deserve any credit.

Talk about trying to find the negatives.

Weve won 3 on the trot, and beaten our relegation rivals, what more do people actually want from our last 4 games?

Seeing as Bolton only managed six wins from 27 Premier League matches before their recent run of three straight wins, and a player's near death experience, Coyle deserves the MOTM.
Some people just need to be argumentive, a cerain user, more often than most, in my opinion

They should bring back Bells as the main sponsors, used to love seeing them gigantic bottles in front of Clough n Paisley back in the day.I bet old Cloughie Howard Kendall loved em more than the championship medals they picked up!.They loved a drink them 2 old soaks, shame Liverpool destroyed the possible success for that Everton side.Well done to Coyley for the award, amazed we won three on the bounce, even though the opposition was...actually cant be bothered for a moan tonight!.

Bricks this is a time just to be glad that we have some cheer. That's all folks!

I am an Owen Coyle supporter... I couldn't believe people were calling for his head... and congratulations on him getting manager of the month.... However.....!!

Because we beat Wolves I have a terrible feeling he will stick with 4-4-2 (at least against Fulham) and this will be a big mistake. We are by no means out of trouble (because Blackburn, QPR and Wigan have also all put good runs together). We need that extra man in midfield, against Wolves we really didn't look good (despite the result), and I can see Fulham, and some of the other teams we play scoring goals against us too easily unless we revert to 4-5-1.

COYWM!!! See you in the NSL
