Third ODI, my team

England I see are going with the same team. Presumably based on that old saying, 'if at first you don't succeed, try, try, try again'. Does that ever work?

Lets face it people,
england doesnt have EXPLOSIVE batsmen in the mould of Pollard, symond, Pathan, yubraj, dhoni, watson, who can hit the ball effortlessly miles away.
But, what england has are some pretty crafty batsman in bell, cook, trott and some attacking batsman in kp n morgan in middle order.
2 years ago most england fans would be so happy with these players.

Déjà vu...seen all this before from England year after year.. To static in the crease..

Only one straight drive today. In the last game maybe three in total.
SL bowler generally bowl wicket to wicket so the straight drive is a required shot.

This is where i find England so frustrating in this format. As has been pointed out already we don;t have the big hitters who clear the boundry with ease, i think we have some young guys who can but maybe they're aren't ready yet. however whilst boundries are vital in this format the inability to pick up singles when you can't hit the boundry is so annoying. Singles get a lot of runs and it seems to me we really struggle to rotate the strike to pick these singles up. I would love to see how many dot balls we play out compared to SL. As the OP rightly pointed out, if at first you don't succeed try try try and try again, and yes, it never seems to work yet.

As i type Kp goes.

Just another cameo from Pietersen. He really seems incapable of any patience.

KP caught on the midwicket boundry? never happens does it?.. Anyway at least Pieterson tries to attack and no doubt will be slated for it..let me guess what will happen next..When its Bells turn to bat he will take up most balls and score rather slowly and England will finish on around 245/250 and lose by quite easily..

England has such a long and uninspiring tail. Will they get 150 I wonder.

KP always goes for one shot too many. Caught on the boundary again. Great innings whilst it lasted mind.

Pietersen has an average of only 22 in the last 18 months, he really must stop throwing his wicket away when going well.

Having a drinks break during a power play is nonsense, the players lose concentration.

Bell gone.

Can anyone stand up and be counted from the tail? As I said in my OP Bell must bat at three or be left out, he not a number 6 in ODI games.

At the current rate we should get 210. They will probably chase that in 35 overs losing one or two wickets.
Bad times.

Watching England play this form of cricket is not a pleasant experience.

Cook moves to 100* (127)
Still not gonna help change the outcome.

I see Morgan has a cut lip, I wonder if he and Cook had a private word after a newspaper wrote Morgan wants to be captain.

posted on 3/7/11

To be fair Morgan had the cut lip at the previous match at leeds..
But you never know he may have upset someone...

Why is it that Cook waits until the 49th over to show some aggression? Too little too late. As I type, Cook is run out. Even if by some miracle we got to 245, I can see Sri Lanka chasing that in 40 overs on this wicket.

Beautiful delivery to dismiss Dilshan from Bresnan, need a few more of those quickly if we are to get anything today.

SL on course to finish in 40, just 1 wicket down. Our bowlers look like they are just going through the motions at the moment.

It says something about our bowling when Broad is the best.
Dernbach is clearly out of his depth at this level as I said in my OP.
