Gerrard on the right??

Yes we do. And in my opinion it is not just because of his supply of crosses. I think playing him on the right actually forces him to up his work rate. I think he is finished as a box to box midfielder who can concentrate for a full 90 minutes. He is a ball watcher when moves break down. Don't get me wrong, on the ball he can still affect games and do ridiculously good things but centre midfield needs a consistent 7 or 8 out of ten performance every game. He just hasn't been at level for a couple of years now.

agree bungee has far greater work rate and seemed to look for the ball more. ddont know if just because less defensive resposibility on the right just seems more balance to the team

I actually think the opposite is true. As a wide midfielder you have to do your tracking back and tucking in or else it looks so obvious that you're not putting in the required effort. I think he lets Lucas, Spearing and Henderson do most of the tracking back.

I know he steams into the odd 50-50 challenge and the Kop goes wild but it is not nearly enough...CM demands a bit more than that. Rafa and a succession of England managers also know this hence why he has played all over the place for his country rather than his coveted CM spot.

i would agree. without a holding midfielder, i think gerrard's influence in the midfield is limited. stick him on the right and carroll up front, i think we will see not only more from gerrard, but also from carroll. i'd give him the run of games he needs between now and the end of the season.

Correct.

Some people probably watched Match of the Day and saw him turning up on the right a few times in the last 10 minutes.

Why Dalglish didn't sign a proper right sided winger, I don't know. Gerrard is capable of putting in crosses as he showed yesterday, only for Carroll to miss them

Yeah, it didn't play on the right. Just found a lot of space there because Kuyt kepy moving inside and Flanagan didn't really venture forward much. He played his best position yesterday and we played better yesterday.

He just needs that target that plays on the shoulder of the last defender and we'll open teams up more.

One of the problems yesterday was that no-one really stayed close to the defensive and gave them something to think about. We need someone that isn't as much as the rest when it comes to build-up but stays close to the defence just to give something to focus on.

However, was pleased with the performance yesterday. Especially the second half.

He never wanted to play on the right under Benitez but the team performed better when he did.

In fairness, he later accepted that Rafa was right and he was out of line for complaining.

I thought we looked a bit better on the counter with Gerrard there, and I would agree that he showed morsel energy. At one point he'd tracked back to defend and the ball broke to him deep into our half on the right. He immediately charged forward with it and must have gobbled up about 60 yards before playing the ball inside to Suarez.

He's still very quick and has a lot of energy; maybe the reason he hasn't looked like it in a while is that, with the tactical improvements in the Premier League over the past few years, teams just no longer leave the space for midfield marauders in the centre any more?

Gerrard's best position for me is behind the striker, but at the moment we don't have a line-leader with the pace and movement to create space for him and get on the end of his through balls etc. I also think it may be difficult to fit Suarez into a system where Gerrard is playing as a second striker (left side of a 4-2-3-1 with a remit to cut inside?).

Maybe, for the moment, Gerrard being given a role in a wider area, or a role that allows him to drift out there a lot, would make us more dangerous.

Morsel energy? What is that?

---

First adopted by Igor Biscan in 2002, it is the practice of a male athlete growing a beard for the specific purpose of catching crumbs from his breakfast, which can subsequently be eaten later on during a match.

The resultant nutritional boost is called Morsel Energy. Controversy erupted in 2004 when, as a direct result of Morsel Energy, Igor Biscan single-handedly laid waste to Deportivo La Coruña, leaving 7 of their players with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

However, FIFA dared not cross Biscan and the practice is still legal, being practiced by such luminaries as Gael Givet and Graham Alexander.

Is it just me, or has anyone else said "rocket sconce" in the outside world and been looked at funny?
