Foy booking Larsson for diving when it was a clear foul

Foy stopping Sunderland when they were breaking to get Bale treatment for a nothing injury

The grappling in the box is hard to call because both sides do it. Who gets the foul?

Moving the ball for a free kick in your own half is minor irritance. BAE is king of gaining ground on throw ins.

Diving is vastly over-hyped. Most of the time, as Bale says, you go down to avoid getting kicked. If you have to dive to avoid getting kicked it is a foul. Why should players invite injury?
However, Bale v Arsenal was a dive, Carroll v Newcastle was a disgraceful dive somehow excused by his poor excuse of a manager.

Teams do it with De Gea as well, crowding around him to try and force a mistake. It shouldn't be allowed to happen but if players know the ref's aren't going to do anything about they're going to try and get an advantage by putting him off.

That really pis sed me off because Benny was in acres of space and there were only a couple of defenders. If Bale had just got up instead of rolling around on the floor we could have created a decent oppourtunity.

You lot weren't moaning when the likes of Blackburn did it to Fabianski ...

D'Jeezus...............................They replayed the Larsson thing at least 8 times and he went looking for the free kick, the booking was for an exaggerated dive. I also think Foy could have sent off Sandro for a very poor lungs in the second half.

Bale wasn't cheating, he was genuinely caught by Turner.

So you think stealing 10 yards is a minor irritant? It isn't, because the more players get away with things the more things they will try to get away with.

As for the grappling, that is determined by the referee and he has to decide who is at fault. If both players the choice is simple, yellow card both and drop ball.

If it is clear who is at fault then yellow card and free kick (or penalty) to other side.

I agree that BAE does it and nowhere have I absolved Spurs players from these infringements of the laws.

I also do not like it if one of our players dive, as I do not like it when others do so too.........................I notice you did not highlight any Arsenal players in your comments?

The whole point of the article is not to be partisan, just to flag up something that affects and also hampers all teams.

Just because everyone seems to do it does not make it right, or does it in some peoples eyes???

??????????????????????? Bale was genuinely hurt, the tackle was very close to being dangerous as it was two footed, but because both feet stayed on the ground Turner got away with it. If you get a chance watch it again and you will see how silly your comment above was!

overtothetalented......................There was a handball, I did not think it was blatant as it looked more ball to hand. Parker also had a similar one in the second half, giving a penalty for either would in my opinion have been harsh.

I didn't mean Bale was cheating, but I don't think the ref needed to stop the game.

Think it would slow the game up considerably if refs quibbled over inconsequential things, but I take your point.

I agree, I actually pressed publish before I had finished
Have a read of this from Gary Neville which is on another thread on the CFC board, quite a good article.

D'Jeezus................................

Why would making free kicks be taken from the correct place slow the game up? Simple remedy, you try and pinch yards yellow card. Players would soon adjust and comply.

As for it being inconsequential, moving a free kick forward by yards can often be the difference between having an opportunity to shoot straight at goal. Think 35 yards, pinch 6-7 yards and all of a sudden realistic opportunity to beat keeper!

Photo.........................Yes I remember that article and reading it again now it does highlight how standards and values have been allowed to be eroded over the past 20 years.

genius. I was talking more about the free kicks in your own half. Refs don't tend to let players take liberties anywhere near the opposition goal.

All I saw was Bale fly over him and start rolling around and assumed he was up to the usual. If he caught him two footed I take the comment back.

D'Jeezus........................This was well inside Spurs half and it was as blatant cheating as I have seen in ages.

I think a large part of the problem is that referees are scared of being taken off the "Elite" list and thus losing earnings and their Fifa status too. The authorities have got to give them a remit to stamp out ((no pun intended) the cheating & rugby stle grappling!

Right, I am off to my brother's for Sunday lunch. Have a great Easter Sunday, including you D'Jeezus, well up to 4pm anyway, then I hope City will spoil it for you!

Good article greaves

The pinching of yards in free kicks and throw-ins will continue until the ref or lino point to the spot of the incident and say "there", giving an opposition free kick should they fail to take it from the wrong place, if this suggested rule was implemented the game would flow, players wouldn't mess about knowing what they have to do to avoid giving posession away.

The other one i think is a blatant rule break that we see week in week out is shielding the ball for a throw or corner, is that obstruction? if the shielding player is making no attempt to play the ball, and he is playing the opposition player - would that make it an infingment?

No, referee decisions are not Chelsea cheating.
Gareth Bale swan dives are
Just so you know, as it seems you find the glaring difference hard to accept.

If linesmen and refs have an awful game (like the Chelsea game) do they get demoted or something? How Foy is still refereeing in the PL is beyond me (more the Stoke game than Sunderland)
