glad we have both. they both work well for the team.

This season it's Koscielny. I still think when Vermaelen is on form he is our most important defender though. He was a rock today at the back.

Koscielny is comfortably our best defender.

Koscielny by a little bit.

Vermaelen was great today, didn't see too much of Kos (i guess that's a sign he had a good game). They are both great i think Kos just shades it.

Koscielny is better in most defensive aspects, but TV is more dominant in the air, a leader and more aggressive.

Why did Kos have to get booked today

At least he will be fresh vs Chelsea

I really don't like the comparisons. We have both in our team and that's the most important games. Need to extend Kossy contract soon.

They compliment each other nicely

Best combo for me is Vermaelen and Per,

Both strong in the air, but there is a greater difference in their abilities, ones a aggressive marker, whilst Per will read you like

Vermaelen is not good in the air. Neither is Koscielny.

They're good in the opposition team's area, but not in their own.

I should re-phrase that. They're both good in the air but not dominant. They will lose a lot of headers against big physical players.

Verm is much better in the air than Kos though, he's got a decent leap and gets more distance on his headers.

Given the choice of keeping one of them, I'll certainly keep Vermaelen. Still consider him the more complete defender.

Koscielny is a pure defender. He's the most technically sound. He's lightening quick too.

Disagree 8bit, Kos is better in the air imo. Neither of them are great in the air though.

It doesn't matter if they are not great in the air. The way Kos and TV work is that one of them will always attack the ball so even when they lose a header, the other of the two will be at the back to win the 2nd ball. The only problem really is defending set pieces but correct me if I'm wrong, we haven't conceded many of them lately. I can't actually remember the last time somebody scored a free kick or corner against us (probably wasn't even that long ago was it )

Completely agree Batmanu.

We have improved from set pieces though (in box boxes).

Pulis who only collects players with six feet over height.

Kos is made for European matches like Barca (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQNPLTM0II0)
However is exposed by stronger oppenents. TV is physically better though

Kos is probably better on defensive ability alone. Vermaelen shades it overall for me.
