Back in the real world though the CL means far more than the league cup and the league is probably the most important thing.....

Finishing 8th is terrible by Liverpool's previous standards.

Then that would make you a little bit crazy as CL football would do far more for you than even multiple league cups.

Look at Arsenal no trophies for years but constant CL football and they are much better off than Liverpool.

A league cup is only really good for that one day, CL football will make a huge difference for player purchases, financies ect.

I would call it short term vs long term but even in the short term CL football is better only on the one day where you can celebrate winning the trophy does it have something over the CL....

A supporter wants what is best for his club not some short term good feeling!

What's this a deluded Manc and Scouser debating how awful their club is.

Midtableteams the least 8 years have been down to our new stadium something your club dreams of building. We sacrificied short term success to secure the long term future of our club. Now the financial constraints have been taken off we are back where we belong top of the league. Oh and you thought Spurs would finish above us the last 2 years and Liverpool would catch us last season.

Run along you deluded idiot.

You're a united fan. Not really in a position where by you know what it is like going x amount of years without a trophy.

Regardless any supporter should want what is best for his club in the long term rather than some short term glory to make him feel better. You suggested a supporter should feel the opposite which I cannot agree with at all.

Actually agree with greatteams about winning a trophy.

Arsenal celebrated 4th and looked ridiculous.

Rightly or wrongly we are in a climate where CL football is vital and until they offer a significant financial reward or even CL qualification for the FA Cup winners, that won't change.

We were just on about one season though not multiple seasons.....

Perhaps the fa cup would be acceptable if cl football was not achieved.

But the league cup? Its nice if you win it but not something that should be taken seriously. Nobody wants to know if youve won the capital one cup before they join you.

None of the other big leagues have a league cup equivalent either. Its a money spinning racket over hete.

Great, i believe the notion that you can't get players outside the CL is a myth as you and Spurs have attracted those players, i think were the problem lies is if the team doesn't get CL football for the first 2/3 years the players are there.

I can only see the Suarez saga growing if you don't make top 4 this season. A player like him wont' want to miss out on the CL in his best years.

It's probably wrong, actually scrap that it is wrong, but CL qualification is higher in clubs priorities than either off the two domestic cups.

My point was that getting CL is best for the club long term. If we were talking an FA cup I could understand but a league cup? No way. Although that's your opinion and that's fair enough I just disagree.

"Arsenal celebrated 4th and looked ridiculous."

Don't worry. You'll celebrate the same way when you finish 5th at the end of this season.
