'Rooney Should Be Footballer of the Year'

Hello. I am WUM

You could count on one hand, the number of bad games RVP has had this season. He's been brillliant right the way through imo. He's scored nearly every type of goal, His last minute goal against Everton has to be up there for goal of the season just for how late it was in the game and they way he hit it. WIth Rooney, he has scored a lot of goals this season but they come in little bursts. He had a massive goal drought in the PL from Sep to Dec? WTF is that about? He's been too inconsistent this year in his performances to knock RVP off the award. Not saying he doesnt deserve 2nd or 3rd just saying RVP clearly wins this one.

As a pure out and out striker a fit RVP is much better than rooney

Rooneys best season was as an out and out striker and he couldn handle it and hated it. Which is kind of weird for a striker

Rvp easily been better than Rooney this year!

Was that the year Drogba beat him to the golden boot?

Drogba also didnt take any penalties that year. Maybe took 1 in the last game of the season

Mr Chelsea.... (U3579)

He has been lethal in the box, no denying that, but that's pretty much it. Like Rooney when he played as a number 9, he has lost influence on the game in general.

Rooney vs Chelsea, or Vs Arsenal, is a different animal to what RVP has been playing this season.

Think I have watched almost every Arsenal game that's been on, and he simply hasn't had much of an effect outside of the box from what I have seen, he has missed a lot of chances too (silly as it sounds). But no denying he makes some very difficult skills look easy, he is that good.

Busby Rooney vs Chelsea - his best game this year. He ran it from start to finish . He's not hit that level again imo.

posted on 11/4/12

Of course he should not be palyer of the year. If he wasn't English he would not be regarded as being among the top 10 premier league players.

hello, Busbybabes.

my point - and my only point is that using a comment like

'take x,y,z out of the team and they would be x,y,z'

is so mind numbiling stupid i had to post.

that is all.

as you were.

Rooney is a stronger and faster version of Dirk Kuyt.

Same footballer, bigger muscles.

Rooneys role at UTD is vital in the set up and how we play with the injuries etc. Its a role that isnt really played inthe same way by any other player

But I have to say that some of the praise given to him is unworthy. I have seen him get MOTM performances when there are better candidates and that is annoying

For me rooney is a conundrum, he hasnt fulfille his early potential as a player. Some will point to his medals but the likes of oshea and brown got those too.

Dennis Irwin was one of the most underrated players at UTD by all bar UTD fans, and at the moment rooney is the most over rated including UTD fans

Fact is we have managed to cope without his goals as others have stepped up during his 'patches'

it's not blind arrogance,

..............

It is actually, bodering on the Liverpool fan type of delusion.

I think it is why spurs fans seem to like mocking Liverpool fans, you both share this unfounded delusion that your players are better than anyone else.

Rooney has hardly fulfilled what people assumed his potential was, and I think it is difficult to suggest he is world class. He's done nothing in the Champions League or World Cup to suggest that.

Why give him player of the year? He won it in 2010 when he definitiely did not deserve to, (Drogba deserved it), don't make the same mistake again!

posted on 11/4/12

I forgot Rooney won player of the year that year, Are you serious? Drogba won the golden boot and helped Chelsea to the double got nothing? This is why people say "its because he's english"

2 questions that need asking for rooney

1 - who came in for him when he wanted out?

2 - If he would make 'any' top team who would he replace and what role

answer these honestly and you reach the right conclusion for me

Wasn't me who started the "without RVP" though was it....?

Mr Chelsea.... (U3579)

He was great vs Chelsea yes, equally so vs Arsenal at their place. I agree he hasn't hit these hights as consistantly as he has in the past, I'm just offering a different persepctive other than, "RVP has been far and away the best" which simply isn't true.

The likes of Henry and Ronaldo were worthy of that sort of praise, not RVP, or Rooney in fact. This just reminds me of Utd fans when Rooney scored 30 odd, possibly his worst all round season, yet because he had the goals he was suddenly a muich better player, which wasn't the case.

A year ago, all these gooners would have called RVP a number 10....

@mr chelsea - Its like I said earlier. He got MOTM when he was non existent in games

On most UTD forums people have agreed with this.

Its a media infatuation

well no, but your post contained a modicom of other points that were nothing to do with me so....

i was going for clarity.

@BB - I think this season has been generally awful for rooney despite his goals

In fact I would go as far as to say that in the games he has scored his overall performances have been worse than when he hasnt scored

As I have continuously said something isnt right with rooney. He is either injured, knackered, doesnt give ...., or is loosing it

Vidicschin I don't know what is delusional or arrogant about expecting RVP to win the footballer of the year with ease. If he has been the best player this season then he will win it. The problem in the past is there were never any stand out performers so people just voted for the flavour of the month, ie Bale, Giggs (even Rooney when Drogba should have won it IMO). But RVP gets so many plaudits and deservedly so that it is inevitable he would win it especially considering the other media darling Silva has gone AWOL since Christmas.

and I think it is difficult to suggest he is world class. He's done nothing in the Champions League or World Cup to suggest that.

.............

So, by that definition, we can write off every Chelsea player as being World Class then, yes?

Only the ones who don't undertsand football. He is a much better rounded player than when he was younger, just because he doesn't dribble like Messi, or shoot like Ronaldo, doesn't mean he isn't world class.

Here's an example, name a player similar to Wayne Rooney. Name 2 or 3 numebr 10's better than Rooney...

"2 questions that need asking for rooney"

Why do they?

1 - who came in for him when he wanted out?

Who cares?

2 - If he would make 'any' top team who would he replace and what role

Well he'd do a job on the left at Barca. He could play his current role at Utd for Madrid, he would walk into any PL team, to say otherwise is ludacris.

He's done nothing in the Champions League.

What? He has won it, he has scored in a final, a semi-final and a quarter final.

You are absolutely astonishingly stupid.
