No I can't, but are we really that naive?

If he wanted to open in England to keep Dravid at 3, would you oppose that? Would anyone oppose that?

"Maybe the selectors thought his wicket is too important to lose early in an innings."
More important than the only guy who is actully scoring runs?

Spot on SS, Dravid has frequently had to compromise his position for the good of the team, but still has such a great record.
Dravid is a true legend.
i think as normal fans, whether indian fans or cricket fans, it is legitimate to critisize sachin tendulkar. One because he has started to come on more press conferences celebrating his 100th 100, which i think he has the right to, but mainly because he didnt turn up to a single press conference when india were losing 8-0. whther that is being selfish or just doesnt want to come due to people asking him questions on his 100th 100, that u have to ask tendulkar himself.
I remember when when dravid carried the bat i think in ovals? I really thougth tendulkar shud have opened as dravid had almost batted a whole day and he probably was tired, and if india had any chance of saving that test match then we needed a fresh dravid as he was the only one who was batting for long periods.but that didnt happen. From outside we can always say that tendulkar is being selfish but we really dont know whether the team management were behind that call, and if so why didnt tendulkar as senior batsman raise his hand up and say no, let dravid rest and let me open?
I think tendulkar for whatever negative criticism he gets for what happened in england and australia, he fully deserves it. The only player that doesnt deserve critisicm for the 8-0 has to be dravid.
I have a signed shirt off him framed on my wall.
Just what ja606 needed. Yet another debate about Tendulkar - YAWN
my head hurts now. maksi is there anything u do other than talk thrash. i hope ur chest didnt burst after seeing australia win, given that u already wrote them off and were mocking that they are trying to 'save' the test match when in fact they won with 15+ overs to spare
To be honest, I enjoyed what I saw. They are weak, haven't improved one iota from the last time we met, and I look forward to giving them another good thrashing
Or did you see something good about that victory over the only team on earth that is worse than india?
Anyway, we are well off thread now so just ignore me mate. You just sit here with all your mates harping on about who is best, Tendulkar or Dravid, cos we haven't been through this a million times already xxx
Great article. I am a massive Dravid fan and rate him more than Sachin.
Brilliant but self centered.
Belonged to the old Indian school. modest in his body language but places a lot of importance on individual records.Thats one of the primary reason why he was not a successful Indian Captain.
The generation later than Tendulkar like Ganguly, Dravid ,Yuvraj were more 'patriotic'.
"The generation later than Tendulkar like Ganguly, Dravid ,Yuvraj were more 'patriotic'."
Sachin belongs to a generation where merely doing well is akin to winning
ok to put what asia said in simple words, india have always been happy by achievements that really are not valued by other great cricketing nations. I think that is why india havent been able to convert those 1-0 lead to a big 3-0 or 3-1 wins. The mindset of the team is wrong and i think that is where not only sachin but the whole team fails at. we have moved from an era of gavascar/ kapil dev etc to an era of ganguly and after that dhoni, but the team is still the same. India pays more respect in producing great players and not a great team.
look at steve waugh. yes his records are great in terms of personal achievements, but the team that he led had only one thing in mind, win every match, whether its a group stage wc match, or a final deciding test match. this team has performed everytime they have entered a field, whether they lose is another story, but that is the approach india lacks. I know this is a sachin thread, but this is all linked. its not about sachin, its about the whole team and their goals.
Viru,
Agreed.
Another example of what you said above is the last test between WI and Aus, they declared before they matched the WI first innings total and then began their chase with a win in mind. Whereas, we, in the same senerio, shut up shop and played for a draw.
What an innocent piece of article this.
Do you ever think Rahul Dravid has given the Indians as much joy as Tendulkar has?
Ask any normal Indian(ie sane, un-mental, un-saint,etc) and they know who Sachin is, perhaps not so about Rahul.
Also Tendulkar's batting is more flambuoyant and entertaining than Dravid's.
Tendulkar is more like Ponting(even the way they make their face while facing a ball) whereas Dravid is someone like Hussey.
I would watch Tendulkar bat instead of Dravid.
And I am not dis-respecting any player here.
Just my choice.
What an innocent comment and completely missed the point of the article!
I am talking about the fact that Dravid always made sacrifices for the benefit of the team, whereas the team made sacrifices to give Sachin the best opportunities to score.

You've created a very good article and put your points across very well.
Chops has no idea what this article even means and Neon is making excuses for his hero yet again.
Fans such as Neon are partly responsible for the team not being as good as it could be.
When Ganguly was dropped, it was the right decision, but his fans took to the streets. People need to wake up and start seeing the bigger picture.
Neon's only defense is that I can't be certain whether the management didn't force Sachin to bat at the easy positions. Well Neon, do you remember Greg Chappel asking Sachin to bat lower down the order in ODI, because he felt that Sachin's range of shots will help the score board ticking over in the middle overs? What was Sachin's response to that? Did he ever bat lower down the order?
