Sheffield Wednesday founded on that date
Was it a Wednesday by any chance?
Oh your back, I was right
I was just checking - that's not why we are called Wednesday though.
Short version - Originally there was the Wednesday cricket club formed in 1820, local tradesman played on their half day off. Some years later, a football section was formed (1867) to keep the players together during the winter.
However, the footballers made all the money and the cricketers spent it all, so they separated. Hence the Wednesday Football Club. The Wednesday Cricket club disbanded, but has recently been resurrected this year.
Was it resurrected on a Wednesday?
Stop taking the pi$$ , probably.
Im going to say it was because it makes the story better
