Good article. It's a real shame about McGugan. He's been here a good while and I've been a big fan for years, but he really failed to capitalise on improvements before this season and has fallen behind again. I think we need to see who else we lose and keep though, before deciding on Lewis.
He should have left in the summer to be honest.
Agree with the above though, we need to see who goes and stays before he moves on. Hopefully we can get a few players in, but it doesn't look likely. Even if we can raise a little money from selling McCleary and Gunter.
Raising money to get players is half the issue - the other problem is the wage bill which needs to be cut before we can get any decent newbies in.
It's a fine balancing act and McGugans fate will be partly determined by what that balance looks like. Still got a soft spot for him though
From what we've seen on mcgugan this season, he's been below par for most of it. It may have been him playing games regardless of form but his sidelined period and the competition seems to have helped him abit.
McGugan isnt crucial to the team as we've seen but when he is played right and plays well, adds attacking options to the side. Apart from derbyshire, it'd be good to keep everyone, but again, its mainly the final wage bill which will dictate how many players will stay.
there are some rumours that forest are trying to negotiate a mcgugan plus cash deal for guedioura. this same source says guedioura had a fall out at wolves which was why he was sent out on loan and i'm pretty certain guedioura wants to stay.
Philo - but surely we can't afford his wages ??
well thats what i thought but i don't know
Philo - but surely we can't afford his wages ??
__________
We don't know what we can afford until the new owners come in. It might be that they want to come in and splash £50m on players. Equally they might want to sell any players we've got that are worth anything, get high earners off the wage bill and hope we can stay in this league.
john percy on twitter is saying that ND's estate has provided extra cash for new contracts. thats we've been able to offer a contract to mccleary.
he also says: "Another #nffc player has been (finally) offered a new contract. More details tomorrow.."
and replied to another tweeter "I think Guedioura will go back to Wolves - not sure Forest can afford him"
i don't know how reliable this is but its the only source thats making any comments on the situation at forest
if by some miracle we pulled this deal off. guedioura captain? i think so!
A Wolves supporting mate of mine said that Guedioura had had a bust up with McCarthy who them shipped him out on loan with no recall cause. Unfortunately McCarthy has now gone.
hopefully pep will want to play for us and like higinbottom is saying, is enjoying is his time here and would be interested in being here next season.
Question really is, do wolves need him? Because if they've got enough quality players that he wont feature he might go a league down, and maybe even a wage drop to be promised starts all next season.
punt mcgugan out if we can still get decent money for him
he's been utter rammell this season.
